Open .8bf file extension?

Feb 12, 2009 3:10 PM

Hi all, I have down loaded some zip files - put then in a folder in desktop, most of the files I have managed to open - but the files with .8bf file extension. I have nothing to open them with. What Adobe Product do I require to do this.

What are the files supposed to contain?

.8bf is a Windows format and the files may be Plug-ins from Corel Paint.

    From Wikipedia:

8BF, sometimes known as a Photoshop plugin, is a file format for plugins used by many raster graphics editors including Adobe Photoshop, Helicon Filter and Corel Paint Shop Pro. 8BF files can be opened with these programs and act like mini-editors which can modify images for use in the parent program.

You don't usually "open" plugin files. You install them in the program you want to use them in.

They may be old plug-ins and only work with a much earlier version of Photoshop (version 7 perhaps?) if they work with Photoshop at all.

But perhaps they were intended to work only with Corel Paintshop.

    Greetings,

I understand that I'm a little late with this and you may never get it. But I have recently had the same issue and just this evening found a solution. By navigating to Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop CS2 (my current version) > Plugins > Adobe Photoshop Only > Filters > I was able to drop the file in tat folder, restart Photoshop and voila... the plugin showed up on the list of plugins and on the Filter Menu.

Hope this helps anyone who has the same issue. I am running Windows XP with Adobe CS2.

msuner was not too late for me.  I was doing a project (due tomorrow) and was following an instruction video using the extract filter.  I couldn't find it in my CS4 64bit.  I just spent a lot of time trying to get the filter's .8bf file to save into PS but got a PS error message.  I basically followed msuner's method and finally, it is working!

Thanks for that info.  I had just wasted a couple of hours.
