Just a friendly reminder. Nothing has happened there since this last post in December, 2007: <br /> <br /> <blockquote> <a href="/webx?14@@.3c0574d0/1">Ramón G Castañeda, "Hypatia Italic Fonts Query" #2, 1 Dec 2007 12:54 am</a> <br /> <br /> the Adobe type store site is an ungodly mess when displaying foreign characters. <br /> <br />Here's what happens when I type áéíóú äöü Maß Fluß Ññ Á <br /> <br />c <a href="http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=104A0CT80hdyDND53Tokr1ClefLC" /></a> <img alt="Picture hosted by Pixentral" src="http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/104A0CT80hdyDND53Tokr1ClefLC_thumb.jpg" border="0" /></blockquote>

Ramón,

As these are typical standard Western glyphs, it does seem a bit absurd that the online display defaults as it does. It certainly does not help sell fonts.

If Thomas or Dov are listening, maybe they can use their influence.

See the attached for a look at how myfonts.com easily resolves the same request (just using default settings).

It's a significant bug. I reported it to the appropriate folks. Thanks for pointing out this problem.

This may not get fixed any time soon, but perhaps we can at least get it to reject non-ASCII characters instead of scrambling them.

Well, no information is better than wrong information. But perhaps adding a note to the effect that the selected font does (or may) include additional characters.

It's sad to see how unresponsive the Adobe bureaucracy has become on so many levels. I can only imagine how frustrated Adobe staff is. You have my full sympathy, T.

This isn't really a bureaucracy problem. The person who did the online preview software isn't at Adobe any more, and nobody else has had to do more than very minor maintenance on it since....

Cheers,

Then Adobe might consider acquiring my fonts.com for the preview technology, the way they acquired Macromedia just for Flash. :D

(Did you know that Flash effectively turns all images with an embedded color profile into untagged files? 😞 )

Here's a thread discussing this, which includes a link to a much longer thread on the Adobe Photoshop Macintosh forum:

One year later, and the mess at the Adobe Type Store remains an embarrassing mess, as described in the original post.

EDIT:  Actually, this has been discussed since at least December of 2007.

Yes, definitely embarrassing. I've logged a new bug, in case the old one got lost, and I'll be following it up.

I'll post more news as soon as I have them, hopefully less than a year from now.

Thanks.
