Vista x64 Acrobat window won't maximize or restore properly

May 23, 2008 11:22 AM

I have tried a couple times to run Windows Vista Ultimate x64, but there have been enough problems that I've decided to go back to 32-bit. One of these problems is with Acrobat 8.1.2 Pro.

Whenever I open a PDF in Acrobat, if the window opens fully maximized and I try to restore it to a smaller window, the PDF document does not resize accordingly. It is still zoomed in to the same size as when it was maximized and as a result, I can't see the scroll bar because it's off the window. If I open the PDF in a window that is a smaller restored window and then maximize it, the PDF document again does not resize and remains the same small size that it was in the restored window with the scroll bar in the middle of the now maximized window with just a bunch of useless gray area where the document should have expanded to. The same problem occurs when the window is manually resized as well.

The only workaround I've found is to close the document and reopen it so that the window starts off either maximized, restored, or the new size that you changed it to. This is a real pain, especially when you're in the middle of doing something in the middle of the document.

Are you asking for help to get Acrobat to work with V64 (as you have found, not likely) or are you posting this as information?

Either way, switching to a supported OS is a good idea

I have no issues at all with Vista 64 and Acrobat Pro.

8.1.2 is supported under Vista 64

Your problem sound like it could be a video driver. Have you checked for
    an update?

I have the same issue. I have Logitech G5 but with no software installed. No idea what might cause this.

Same problem for me. Running Vista x64. Adobe Acrobat 8.1 was running fine until around the time I installed Setpoint software. (The conflict with Acrobat wasn't the only issue I had with the setpoint software, either.) In my opinion, the setpoint software is really poorly written. Trouble is, it appears that when you uninstall it, it doesn't completely restore the system to the previous condition. I'll bet a lot more people have this problem.

Another option to "fix" the problem I've found is to simply close the SetPoint toolbar icon and the problem goes away.
