Camera Raw.plugin location on Mac, Photoshop Elements 6

Jul 12, 2008 7:56 AM

(Regarding Photoshop Elements 6) Adobe's updater cannot find the Camera Raw plugin to update to 4.4.1, so I downloaded it manually. The problem is trying to find the old plugin so I can replace it. If I follow the info in the Read Me for this update, it says to put it in:

~/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats

This folder did not exist, so I created Plug-Ins, CS3 and File Formats. Didn't work.

I went to the Photoshop Elements 6 folder, and there found

Plug-Ins/FileFormats

(no space between "File" and "Formats"). I put the new Camera Raw.plugin there (no old one there), and now Elements, in its "About Plug-In" drop down menu lists TWO Camera Raw plugins, version 4.3.1 and the 4.4.1 I just put there.

Where the heck is the 4.3.1 file so I can get rid of it?? Searching with the Finder and Spotlight only reveals the 4.4.1 file.

Is this the ROOT LEVEL Library or did you look in the User level Library? It must be in the root level/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats

The Adobe updaters have been broken for years in one way or another. Stop wondering.

I had to remove the twain driver from Elements 6 because it was preventing the programme starting up. Now I have an updated system I would like to try it again so that the Updater works. But I cannot remember which folder in the plugins folder I should put it back in.

I think I have a similar problem but I dont understand the solution. Im using Mac OS X version 10.5.5. The problem: Adobe updater 5.1.0.1082 wants to update Camera Raw to 4.5 on Photoshop Elements 6.0. It cant complete the update because it cant find the program. I found the Camera Raw folder in the library/application support/adobe. Photoshop Elements 6 lists the plug-in as Camera Raw 4.1.3 Do I need to move this folder to a different location so the updater can find it? If so where? Thank you for your help this updater is really annoying popping up every other day.
    Thanks again,
    Steve

I have the same problem with Camera Raw. All of the details I have read and I am still non of the wiser.

This appears to be a major problem with Adobe products. (Photoshop Elements 6.) WHY HAVEN'T ADOBE DONE SOMETHING ABOUT FOR PEOPLE TO MAKE IT EASIER TO USE?

I cannot even find the Camera Raw folder????

Please let me know step by step what to do. I have an intel dual core Mac with OSX 10.5.5.

Steven Advensky, Elizabeth, download version 4.6 http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4039 on your desktop. search for the current installed version of camera raw with Spotlight. Open the folder. move the old version to the desktop, put the new version in the folder.

Better yet, follow the instructions from the readme file: http://www.adobe.com/special/photoshop/camera_raw/Camera_Raw_4.6_Read Me.pdf

    Steven,

The Adobe updaters have been broken in one way or another for ages. I haven't relied on them for years and years.

Updaters and installers are not Adobe's strong suit, to put it mildly.

I figured out how to complete the update. And yes the instructions where in the "read me" file. Who would have thought. I guess I'm so used to updates taking care of themselves I don't even think to look at the "read me" files anymore. My wish would be for the "Adobe Updater" to do this for me.

    Thanks,
    Steve

To update the RAW file image processor in Photoshop Elements 6, download the RAw plug in 5.2 from the Adobe site- this will download a zip file which when unzipped will place the files in a folder in MyDocuments called cameraRaw5_2. Run the CameraProfiles application which will run/install the cameraRaw plug-in. Copy/replace this plug in file to the folder in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats. This will then install the plug-in with the latest camera updates eg Canon G10 etc. Then open the Raw file in Photoshop Elements which will go to the plug-in for adjustment and can then be opened in Photoshop Elements. Hope this helps.

Why, when technology surely allows for it, aren't the production lines kept up to date? It MUST be possible for Adobe to ensure that the latest plugins are on the disc when it is shipped.

    Philip,

Don't be absurd. ACR gets updated every three to four months. The latest version of ACR gets put on the install disc and it will be obsolete by the time you buy it.

Unless you know of a magical way of burning a DVD-ROM when it's already inside the wrapped package in the mail carrier's bag, there's nothing Adobe or anyone else can do about it.

Camera Raw location on a Mac:-

    Hard Drive/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/File Format/CS6

    or

    Hard Drive/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/File Format/CS5

    or

    Hard Drive/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/File Format/Elements

NOT within the User section at all!

and if you update one Camera Raw you can, of course, copy and paste to alternative versions of Adobe products (as if, for example, you have both CS6 & CS5, or Elements)

    aaaashy,

You're replying to a four-year-old post, and the clarification was already made in the very first reply by Jeff Schewe back in July of 2008.
