InDesign CS4 - Revert / Save

Dec 24, 2008 9:22 AM

Can anyone tell me why when opening an existing document and making changes, I can no longer Revert? The Revert command is grayed out. I found that if I open a document and then save it right away, then make changes, I can revert.

Also, how come when I open an existing document and click save, it automatically forces a save as? And then if I click save as, it makes a second document, the only difference being the .indd extension. Does anyone know if I can hide the .indd extension, like I was able to do in CS3?

I don't know about you but I think these are dumb changes from CS3.

I think the Revert command is greyed out because you have opened a pre-CS4
document in CS4. If you open a CS4 document in CS4, Revert will not be
    greyed out.

For the same reason, when you try to save, it forces a save as, because
you're creating a new version of an old document.

I currently use InDesign CS3 and would like a friend to be able to open the file, but he has CS2. Is there a way to convert the CS3 file to CS2, thereby allowing him to open it?
