Accessing DataManager via Web Services

Oct 4, 2006 8:13 AM

Hi -

I'm new to Document Security server, EJBs & also Web Services and I need to apply a policy to a PDF that will be downloaded by a browser.

The web application that is running the site & will handle the request to download the PDF is running under tomcat & on a different server to both Policy Server & Document Security server.

My problem is from what I can tell it's not possible to connect to the Data Manager directly and apply a policy to a PDF before I serve it to the user.

As I'm fairly new to all of this I was wondering what is the quickest way of getting the Data Manager available remotely. I've had a look through the sample code that deploys the data manager via EJB, but I'm also interested in pursuing the web services approach. I'm basically looking for the simplest approach I can take so that I can get something working relatively quickly.

Does anyone have an example of this that I could take a look at, so I can decide which I understand the best?

Any other advice that anyone could offer would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
A.

P.S. I forgot to mention that I'm running the Adobe LiveCycle stuff under JBoss 3.2.5

Did you ever get a solution to this? I read in the DocumentSecurity developer's guide that:

"A custom application that uses the Data Manager Module API must be deployed to the J2EE application server hosting LiveCycle Document Security. You cannot remotely invoke the Data Manager service."

So, is accessing DocSec via Workflow's web services the only way to use DocSec remotely?
