Hugues, at this time we can't comment other than to say that support for .RW2 files is coming soon. Thanks for your patience.

I see DPReview has got their hands on an ACR beta with LX3 support!

Any idea if/when a "public" beta of ACR 5.2 may be available? I see it's already been used in at least two recent camera reviews (Panasonic LX3 and Sony A900) at dpreview's site...

There will likely be a public beta. However, I cannot say when yet. (Part of the problem is that I don't actually know when ... I know that sounds improbable, but it's true.)

When ACR 5.2 comes, hopefully it will also support the sibling Leica D-Lux 4 .rwl files as capture one is no match to lightroom . . .

Malcolm, yes, D-Lux 4 RWL files and LX3 RW2 files will be supported simultaneously.

A quick question--I've got LR2, but I'm sticking with Photoshop CS3. Does this mean that, after the upgrade, I'll be able to open these files in Lightroom but not Photoshop?

Yes, but you can always simply use the DNG converter from Lightroom or DNG converter from the free camera RAW (don't install the camera RAW component, just use the dng converter) to convert to dng. Those files will open fine in CS3.

As you will read, not even Adobe Asia Pacific can sort this out:

    As posted on DPReview Forum:

Im more than surprised that Adobe have release the latest raw update 5.2 that has promised to open the Panasonic RW2 file format, it does not work! I have spoken to Adobe Asia Pacific, and even sent them a raw file for testing. In reply form Adobe, they advised me that they too cannot open the RW2 files. Come on Adobe, lift your game. Has anyone had luck with the latest RAW 5.2 upgrade?

I have the FX 180 (Aussie Version), that same camera as the FX 150 (USA version). Its a great little camera, 14 mpx, really excellent. But I wish I could use the RAW format with Photoshop.

Please advise if you have any further luck!

    mark.

G'day John. Just wondering if there is any agreement to allow us to rw2 files in Lightroom, If it's going to happen soon I will buy the camera, if it doesn't look likely then I won't.

Sorry, yes, there are extra considerations with these files, and there's a thread or two here somewhere.

I'd just use the DNG converter until it's fully sorted. Then you're good in both LR and PS.
    best wishes

    Mark-

Can you post a sample raw file from the FX 180?

    Hello,

I updated to LR2 just as soon as it was released and importing RW2 files (from a Panasonic FX180) still doesn't work. It now says that "the file [seems] unsupported or damaged."

I have phoned Adobe Asia Pacific help line. Whilst they have been diligent to the letter, they too admit these RW2 files of the FX180 are not supported. It seems there is a difference between the RW2 format of the FX180 and the LX3? The DNG workaround does not work for this camera.

Please give Adobe a call and hassle them as I did.

    Mark,

Thomas Knoll asked you for a sample raw file. Providing him with same will eliminate the need to hassle Adobe. Now do yourself and all FX180 users a really big favour, provide the raw file.

Please download a smaple RW2 file from:

    https://download.yousendit.com/Q01IYUlqQ0NVbTlMWEE9PQ

Adobe Support Portal recently responded to my request with this comment:

Upon checking this further, we found out that this is a known bug in
Adobe. We determined that Camera Raw 5.2 on Photoshop CS4 does not open
the newly supported camera raw files of Leica (*.RWL) and Panasonic
(*.RW2) - Bridge CS4 does not open the thumbnails as well.

At the moment, we are in the process of fixing this bug and we will just
notify you once it's been fixed.

Please pass this work around onto the Adobe Tech Team. I have found a work around that does work.

I open the RAW file in software called EditPlus, change the camera designation from FX180 to FX150, the file can then be opened.

It therefore suggestes that the Plugin 5.2 does not recognise the FX180 designation, but actualy does recognise the file format once the designation is changed to one that matched the plugin camera signature library.

Just shows the length to which camera manufacturers go to frustrate owners/users from using third party software to convert their raw files.

Yes, This is a pity.. I have the FX180, and I've been waiting LR2 can support my camera's RAW Format(RW2) over several months. So I was very delighted to hear that LR 2.2 could support Panasonic's new RAW Formats : But it can not works as mentioned above.

I cannot understand that how this silly bungle was possible. Am I wrong if I feel some sorry about this happening? Anyway, Hope ADOBE will fix this problem ASAP. Believe their professional treatment. ;)

Here we are 2 years after the last post in the forum.

I was just about to bit*& and moan that "it still doesn't work".

But, I upgraded to CS5 and viola! it worked!

    Thanks Adobe!
