FTP problems

Mar 6, 2007 6:01 AM

I tried to use the Web FTP upload function and I get the error

FTP trasfer failed with message 'connection to the server failed'.

The same settings on cyberduck work fine and I have tried to upload to two different domains. I am running Lightroom 1.0 on Macbook pro with 2Gig.

Any ideas?

Try passive vs. non-passive. Can you browse the foreign system with the connection properties you use now?

In a pinch you can use something like tcpdump to sniff the traffic (and have some fun watching your credentials being passed in the clear!)

"an error occurred sending the file access was denied"
tried passive on and off / tried with a clean windows install -
can browse to the desired folder within LR but can not upload...

    GRRR!

I have the same problem - imac (intel), no connection and cannot browse, but my external ftp program gets there just fine.

I am having similar problems with Lightroom 1.1. When I try to upload using the Lightroom internal FTP in the web module, I get 'server cannot be found'. I can get to the same server with my FTP program external to Lightroom.

Would be nice to know of someone who has been able to get the internal export with FTP in Lightroom to work. I really need help.

    Thanks

Hi I tried the upload earlier with a few pictures and it worked. I tried again this evening and it hung with a server error after about 26 images. Tried again and it worked. The results can bee seen here http://www.fotopix.plus.com/content/index.html

I am having the same problem. The function did work - once. The pix are online http://www.dougalco.com/2007%2007%20Spanish%20River/

Now it doesn't. It gives me a "Connection to the server failed" error. The login information is correct. It works with Cute FTP.

Using Lightroom 1.0, PC, Win XP. It is very frustrating. Any suggestions?

FWIW. I found a workaround for this problem. In Web, you can "Export" the collection. This basically makes up the necessary files and saves them locally on your hard drive. You can then use your usual FTP program to upload them to your site. It is a little more trouble and time, but at least it works.

And the way many of us are doing it, since you have more control over the upload and this is how you have to do upgrades to a Gallery any how, so as to not have to re-upload everything, just to a or change a image or two.

This was an old problem for me and now my fix is second nature. My F-Secure firewall interferes with LR. My solution found by trial and error is to shut down firewall for a minute, then start LR, then restart firewall. After that I have no problems. Don Ricklin's view is good too.

I've been able to use it. It works fine, Need to make sure you put the right server name or IP address of the server in and correct login and passwd.
Not a lot of dialog in the process...
    Here's a quicking I just made..

It does seem to be a firewall problem. Once I set the permissions in Zone Alarm, it works fine.
