I watched match from Milan live on the telly last night. I have to say neither team looked outstanding. PSV missed at least two glorious chances and Milan's second goal had an element of fortune. Shevchenko's goal was the best part of the match.

PSV are going to have to raise their games to new heights to score at least three against Milan to win the tie in Eindhoven. Looks like AC Milan will be in Turkey in a month.

Meanwhile the tension's mounting here. Chelsea only supplied Liverpool with 3,000 tickets for the match tonight, so everyone will be tuning into Sky Sports 1 at 7:45 om BST. I've not got SS1 on my telly, so I'll just have to go to the pub!

PS: I have my tickets for next Tuesday. More or less the same seats as last time v Juventus. And I've already been offered £1,000 for the two. NO WAY!

Once again the Mighty Reds prove the pundits wrong - they thought Chelsea would win at home.

It was more excellent defending from the mighty Reds, and Dudek was almost a spectator. It's all about not making a mistake.
Alonso's yellow card is the worst part as he won't be able to play in the 2nd Leg.

Next Tuesday is going to be a real cracker!

    > > having to read this explanation to Americans would be like you,

Any thing to educate our cousins over the ocean in the ways of the rest of the world!

It's more like American Grid Football were one team has a great attack and the other a great defence. Where the attacking forwards cannot break through the scrum, the quarter back is under immense pressure and fluffs his passes and any forward pass is intercepted. It will be a low scoring and tense tactical game.

The game next Tuesday will played to a result - one team will win - as you've explained.

    > > How much do you want for your tickets now?!

Not for sale. At any price.

So did all the red half of Merseyside. That Petr Cech is a very good goalie. Too good!

Meanwhile, LFC need to beat Middlesbrough at Anfield tomorrow, kick off 3 PM BST. I didn't get a ticket for that - they were sold out when I got there. :-(

And my husband was cheering - no, he doesn't like Chelsea but if Bolton won they'd be level with Everton, and he does care about that.

EUFA Match Report: Liverpool 1-0 Chelsea

Just got back. The city centre's just one great party!

    > Official Match Programme, Liverpool v Chelsea, Tues 3rd May 05

The atmosphere at Anfield was amazing. 40,000 singing and dancing Scousers. The roof was lifted when Luis Garcia scored in the first 5 minutes and then LFC shut up shop and defended, sometimes a bit desperately.
The back four of Finnan, Carragher, Hyypiä and Traore were rock solid and the blue forwards couldn't past round through or over them!

Yes, the two idiots that ran on the pitch were right paira pillocks and deserve what ever they get. LFC will probably be fined for that lapse of security.

Morinho is very bitter in defeat, but then it's rare experience for him. He's got no complaint - they were held to 0-0 in London and when the home team fails to score, it's bad sign. He'll get over it, and after all we did let him the League Cup in Cardiff!

So it's Istanbul on Wed 25th May at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul where Liverpool will probably play AC Milan. So it's 3rd v 5th in the European Rankings, and between them they have won this trophy 10 times - Liverpool 4, AC Milan 6 times. Yes, they are the top in Europe.

We'll be eligible for a ticket, but I not sure if I can afford the necessary three days off work and the others costs Ah, what the hell!!

    Amazing. what a night!

Pitch invaders who halted match appearing in court May 4 2005
    Liverpool Echo

] Two pitch invaders who interrupted last night's game were appearing before city magistrates today.

] Albert Moreno, 27, and Jaume CotMarquet, 30, both from Barcelona, are charged with unlawfully running on to a playing area.

] Merseyside Police Football Unit will be seeking a banning order against the pair, and Liverpool face fines for each invader.

] The pair, both wearing Jimmy Jump T-shirts, ran on to the pitch during the later stages of the second half, and the match was suspended as one of them clung to the goalposts.

] Stewards manhandled the pair off the pitch into the arms of police and they were detained overnight before being brought to court.

] Jimmy Jump is a character who interrupts major international spectacles. A pitch invader wearing a Jimmy Jump T-shirt recently interrupted a Barcelona football match at the Nou Camp.

The linesman gave it apparently, he was interviewed by the BBC today and defended his decision.

It was a no-brainer though. If the ref had disallowed the goal he'd have had to send Cech off for his challenge on Barros and award Livepool a penalty anyway. I think that's why the Chelsea players didn't protest much at the time.

    Absolutely, Iain.

The immediate reaction of the Chelsea defenders said it all. There was no complaint.

Here's the pictures from the TV:

Probably in a few months time or in his autobiography, Gallas will reveal the ball was over the line. If I'd been in his boots, I'd had done everything to prevent a goal too.

I thought Morinho was pretty sour, it's not as if they didn't have plenty of time left to score.

Yes, he's very bitter about it.

Somehow he conveniently forgets that but for two own goals by Barcelona and Liverpool he would been out of the European Cup and lost the League cup final, and the goals which beat Barcelona and Liverpool in the League where lucky deflections. They were all "mistakes" but in his favour

Anyway it was goal. And 40,000 Koppites and Luis Garcia scored it!

Must get down the boozer for PSV v AC (No Sky Sports in my house)

    Hi, Roger,

AC have just squeezed into the final on the away goals rules.
    Ambrosini breaks PSV hearts

They said Liverpool wouldn't beat Bayer Levekusen,
They said Liverpool wouldn't beat Juventus,
They said Liverpool wouldn't beat Chelsea,

    I say "Bring on AC!"

    [edit]
This - Liverpool's 'grandeur restored' - makes excellent reading!

I'm really disappointed about the fact that Liverpool made it to the Final. Their Premiership campaing has been flawed at best! They either win the Champions League or they won't make it to next year's 'cause surely Everton will take their spot! I don't know what happened to Chelsea, they had the motivation to win everything this year and they had defeated Liverpool 3 times already. About AC Milan there's very little I can say: first they bore you, then they tire you and then they make you go nuts! And that's when they attack! I honestly don't care who wins this year, my interest was lost when Chelsea lost. May the 'best' team win.

    > > They either win the Champions League or they won't make it to next year's 'cause surely Everton will take their spot!

    The Champions League regulations state:

] Places in the UEFA Champions League are allocated as follows:

    a) 3 associations with 4 participants each,
    b) 3 associations with 3 participants each,
    c) 9 associations with 2 participants each,
    d) remaining associations with 1 participant each,
    plus
    e) the title-holders, if they do not qualify for the UEFA Champions League via their top domestic league championship, and if the UEFA Administration admits the club in question to the UEFA Champions League at the request of its national association (see Article 1 of the UEFA Champions League regulations).

    Article 1 states:

] However, no association may enter more than four clubs for the competition.

The three Associations who have four places every season are Spain, Italy and England. The title holders can therefore only defend their title by right if they are a team in one of the other 49 associations.

If, for instance, AS Roma were in final instead of AC Milan, the Italians would be having the same issue to deal with as the English FA because Roma are currently 14th in Serie A.

The problem is the rules of EUFA, the implementation of which they have passed onto the English FA.

Whatever the outcome, both Premier League teams in Liverpool will be playing in Europe next season, which can only be good for the city.

The worst thing about this qualification fiasco is that, should Liverpool win, whatever the FA end up deciding one scouse team is going to be disappointed.

Nobody whinges like a hard-done-by scouser, never mind half a city full of 'em. The rest of us are never, ever going to hear the end of this :)

I knew this thread had some value.

    >Training strip inspires Odense

    >Fans of struggling Danish side Odense BK did their bit to lift their side's spirits by bringing a stripper to one of their training sessions last week. Armed with a banner bearing the slogan 'Sex is more fun when you win', a group of supporters calling themselves 'The Unofficial Odense' watched enraptured as the stripper, armed with a whip, came on to the training pitch last Friday, undressed and danced for the startled players. Jakob Jensen, a spokesman for 'The Unofficial Odense' explained: "The team has been lacking spirit, so we thought this would whip up some enthusiasm." Team captain Nicolai Stokholm was not ungrateful. "It was a good initiative," he said. "It is important to us to feel that our fans are backing us, and this was obvious proof that they do." Coach Troels Bech added: "It was quite unusual. I thought it was an OK idea, and it helped to unite us with our fans." However, the naked incentive did not change the team's fortunes on the pitch. They drew their subsequent home game against Viborg FF 0-0 and are still waiting for a first league win of 2005. Perhaps it would help next time if the stripper cracked the whip.
