I saw that game on FOX Soccer Channel. Hope Alonso and Mascherano are okay. Babel looked bad, giving the ball away cheaply, making poor crosses and giving away unnecessary free kicks. He can be a handful when he's running at a defender, but his sketchy ball skills make me wonder about Rafa's effort to turn him into an effective wing player. Riera on the other hand . . . :-)
The commentators were all over Keene for his missed chances, but a couple of those passes came at him like lightning, and he blew a couple--but he worked hard and on a different day might have had a hat trick. He is proven quality with a good work rate, so I say let him play and show confidence in him. The goals will come.
John clearly stated "kneed in the nuts", not "kneeded" as in bread dough. Rafa knows what he's doing, and he's letting his team know they can all stand up to MankU, including himself. Big weekend of football! LFC visit Stoke, who can be difficult at home, and Chelsea travel to Manchester to face United. I hope Chelsea win. Then we'll ask, "who's nervous?".
This is excellent! I've enjoyed a Heifeweisen and a belgian ale, I made a salad with kalamata greek dressing mixed with caesar that has romaine, cabbage, brocolli, carrot, red pepper, 3 brussel sprouts (my personal delight)-- slices of beet, hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives and home made croutons! To top it off, I have the house to myself and I have the 2nd half of Liverpool-Portsmouth cued up, knowing that I'm about to watch a 2nd half that, should LFC go on to win the Premiership this year, people will look back at this 3-2 second half as possibly the key turning point of the season. I'm going to watch it now! No---NOW!
Just a week and a half till the CL first knockout round Leg One matches. Several match-ups look quite tasty besides Real Madrid and Liverpool. I've decided to get past my dislike of one man and cheer for Inter (no choice really), and I am excited for Juventus to take it to Chelsea. I saw Del Piero in excellent form in December, and they have a lot of balance with Amauri (11 goals in Serie A) Molinaro, Nedved, Sissoko, Buffon in goal. Nothing against many of the Chelsea players, but I am
no fan of Abramovich.
U.S. 2-0 Mexico!! Michael Bradley (the coach's son) had a brace. He's a holding midfielder, and he got forward on a corner just before the half and after a desperate save off a header, Bradley burried the ball in the net. It was a very solid performance by the U.S. against our biggest CONCACAF rival.
Mexico always hosts us at Aztecca Stadium at 6500 feet in the worst heat of the day with pollution and 80,000 fans, so the game Wednesday was at night in Columbus during a cold rain!!
