Not looking so blue here, but this was in our fmaily room when i was a nipper, I think thats the reason why i got a soft spot for it.

I don't mind showing a painting that is only less than half finished, because I feel it's headed in the right direction. Finishing it will be my winter-long project.

but the point of the topic was show us what art you like by others. But dont let that stop you. Carry on the way we are.

Oils kill me I would have to say, I dont have the forsite to work with them.

layers i can work with, waiting hours for something to dry before I can move on, nope cant do it.

When I had to illustrate a subject using oils (pre-Mac) I used alkyds. They don't dry fast, either; but considerably faster than regular oils.

Roy Lichtenstein has always been a personal favorite, his work appeals to both the fine and graphic artist sides of me. In 1997, at the MFA in Boston, I got to see an show of his work titled "Landscapes in the Chinese Style" which was held concurrently with a monumental and awe inspiring exhibition that encompassed 1000 years of Chinese painting. An interesting contrast to be sure.

Steve, I remember seeing that Bosch painting in a book when I was a child, and it scared the daylights out of me! But I had to keep looking at it. Fascinating.

An Australian band called the Clouds wrote a song in the early nineties called Hieronymus that said the same thing Laura, "... my appetite is wet, I recall in my childhood, you arroused in me, thoughts of no good..."

I like the Pre-Raphaelites as well, but the host is apparently down right now so I can't see the image. Rossetti used such vibrant colors.

I'll look that one up.

This image doesn't look like Rossetti to me, though it's lovely. Who painted it?

Edit: nevermind, snooping around the host for a while shows it's by John William Waterhouse.
