Alright, so I recently got Photoshop CS4, for some odd reason when I had to do a system restore, it messed up. Not sure why, but I got the screen to accept or decline the user end license agreement, when I clicked to accept it, it just went away and nothing happened. So I uninstalled it, and tried reinstalling it, now every time I try, it gets right to the end, where it's installing Adobe Bridge CS4 and it comes up with an error saying it had problems installing photoshop CS4 and then asks me if I want to continue with the installation, I click continue, and it finishes, but I get an error message at the end again. When I click more information I get this:

Adobe Photoshop CS4
Error:
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation.

Adobe Photoshop CS4
Error:
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation.

Adobe Bridge CS4
Error:
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation.
ne
Adobe Device Central CS4
Error:
Error 1603. Fatal error during installation.

I'm not sure why I'm getting this error, please tell me someone knows what the hell is going on here? Lol. Because people are going to ask here are my specs:

Model: HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC
OS: Windows Vista
RAM: 2g
Free HD space: 170g
Complete HD space: 250g
Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
BIOS: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.1 (you probably won't need this, lol)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M

All help is EXTREMELY appreciated. 😄 Thanks in advance.

Error 1603 is a generic machine-specific issue. One or more of the following fixes may resolve the error.

1. This error is known to occur on computers that do not have enough disk space for the installation. Increase your hard disk space.
2. The temp directory is full
3. A certain file on the machine is locked. To fix this:
1. Close all applications running in the background.
2. Reboot your computer.
3. Run the installation again.
4. The Windows Installer Service may not be properly installed on the machine. Update the system with the latest Windows Installer Service.
5. On Windows NT, 2000, or XP, make sure you have administrative privileges.
6. Use Microsofts Windows Installer Cleanup utility to remove traces of previous installations. This utility does not remove files installed by the installation, which may need to be removed manually.

Thank you for your quick reply. :D

1. I've definately got enough disk space.

2. I've cleared out my temp directory. This would be %temp% in windows vista, I cleared it out manually.

3. I've also closed all applications and rebooted and tried to install several times.

4. Windows Vista is completely up to date.

5. I'm using windows vista, so this doesn't apply.

6. I've done this, but I'm not sure what all I should remove. I didn't see anything left over from Photoshop CS4 or anything CS4 for that matter after I removed.

6. It cleans out the registry values, it does not remove the files, you should find them in the 'Program Files (x86)/Adobe'. There will also be other files under your user name, you can also delete those as well. Remember to re-boot your machine again after doing this.

If you are still having problems, it could be something left over in the registry, you can use the Adobe Clean Script. I would run that after doing above, rebooting then trying a re-install.

I've done everything above, and I still get error 1603. I'm running Windows XP and there's definitely enough space available for Photoshop. I also uninstalled Photoshop CS3 and other Adobe programs. Are there any suggestions as to what I should do?

i've posted this a couple times today, but it seems reasonable to think it might work... :

I don't know if this will help, but check out the adobe clean script. follow the instructions:

Using the new CS3Clean Script

Hi,
I tried installaing CS4 several times but all I got is a message saying Adobe failed to install Photoshop CS4, it happens towards the end of the installation. After running clening scripts I tried a few times but again the same problem. I ended up re-installing Vista, and the same problem happend! A fresh new installation of Vista, but it still didn't help. any ideas anyone? I'm lost...
I have an HP Pavillion DV6500. I saw in a few places the HP laptops have a problem with CS4, could this be the reason?
many thanks.
Idan

I Know I'm not a teckie, but when I purchase a real disc an not a download I expect it to work. I don't feel I should have to reconfigure my computer to make it work. I have had all the same problems as you folks, and I still can't get it to download fully.

Have any of your thrown in the towel, and asked for a refund?

Thanks

I have to admit PS CS4 Extended was a problem child trying to get the software to load. So bad I had to reformat due to the DRM it puts in the registry. Couldn't clean the registry because the CS4 Un-install tool was not available back then. Works ok now with issues. Once it is up and running right it has a lot of value for what I do like the 3d. I will sit on the sidelines on the next round though.

THANK YOU BOTH IDAN AND DAVid,
I dont thing you shoudld have to reformat due to the DRM in the registry. I have no idea what that is or how to begin fixing it.

I just feel when a new product is put on the shelf for sale, and you meet the requirements. It should work. Especially when you have paid good hard money for the program.

I guess I have to get up at 6:00 a.m. to speak to a tec... I sure hope he can figure it out. Or I will ask for a full refund. It is not my fault if a program simply does not load. I would not know that until I tried to install the program.

Thanks for listening I will let you know how it works out.
Keloh.

Good evening.
Well I told you I would let you know how things went. So much first call to Support yesterday morning was minimal. Austin told me the module "j" script was loaded but the call to dllRegistryServer failed. Error Code Ox80004005.
Austin said he would get back to me this morning at 6:30 a.m. I was up at the black of dawn... waiting patiently for him to call before I headed to work. Well.. you guessed it .. he did not call this morning. Not really surprised, I know they don't have an answer, but he could have just said that, and I could have gotten a few more hours of sleep. Very poor customer service.

Has anyone else been told this information when they called support.
Like I said I'm not a teckie, so I'm going to see if I can get a full refund. It's kind of funny, Austin gave me a Customer Id number,
went on line tonight used the number, there is no record of that Id number. Make me wonder if he just made that up. oh well..
night all.

night Keloh.. Betsy
