I have one of the first versions of DV Rack Express. The two laptops that I had it one were stolen and I have been going throught this activation nightmare. The activation tool doesn't seem to be able to find any legacy installs on my laptop and I can't get the latest version of DV Rack Express to install until I "activate" the orginal. Any ideas? Don't want to drop $$$$ into the Premiere bundle currently.
Hey Mark,
Here is the info:
This was originally a download from Serious Magic 4 or so years ago.
DV Rack Express Version 1.0.1431.0 Express
FxxF
Patch01 Installed
Adobe states that the most current version of the software must be
installed. So I downloaded and tried to install Patch07 and tried to
install it aswell. The error there was Install DV Rack first. I guess
this isn't technically a version, but it was what I was referring to.
When SMActivate.exe is run it states: No legacy Serious Magic
applications detected.
I have installed and uninstalled DV Rack multiple times.
Appreciate your help.

Hello,
I am having the same problem with activating DV Rack Express on a new (replacement) computer. I found a patch on the Adobe website for DV Rack Express, and now the software reports:
Version: 1.2.1492.0 Express
After I applied the patch, I also downloaded the SMActivate tool to activate the product, and I also receive the message:
No legacy Serious Magic applications detected.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help...
David
Hi David,
You're not doing anything wrong. It turns out the activation utility does not work correctly for DV Rack Express. If you email me offline (mapes@adobe.com), I'll send you a special version of the tool that will get the job done.
Mark
The special version of the activation utility that's required for DV Rack Express is now available through the same tech note as the other one. Please follow the instructions posted there.
I have reinstalled DV Rack on a new laptop, as the IT wizards wiped my other one slick. I cannot activate.
I have followed the instructions on the Adobe website
1. Installed DV Rack Version 1.0.xx
2. Downloaded and installed the patch dvrackpatch07
3. Downloaded and installed the seriousmagic SMActivate app
When I click on DV Rack, I get an alert window that reads
DV RAck has detected an unidentified error and is unable to continue. If errors persist, please contact Serious Magic Technical Support. Press OK to close DV Rack.
I happen to own CS4, but I think that OnLocation wants more resources than this Thinkpad T41 can handle.
Is there a solution, other than buying a new laptop?
Thanks in advance,
Paul
Mark:
Wow! An actual email response! I'm not being sarcastic. This is wonderful!
The OS on the T41 is Windows XP Pro SP2. The RAM is 1.2 GB on a practically bald 40 GB hard drive.
Thanks so much for a prompt response. It's sincerely appreciated.
More later,
Paul

Hi Paul,
Is the OS XP or Vista?

I'm in an interesting pickle here... I have Ultra 2 and Ultra (Serious Magic discs). I can't install Ultra 2 without installing Ultra first. Ultra fails to install; it installs DirectX 9.0 first, then the installer disappears.
The installer for Ultra2 (I have an upgrade disc) stops when it doesn't detect a previous Ultra install.
Any suggestions?
