OnLocation currently works only with FireWire inputs.

I'm shocked and dismayed that while I can use On Location with my ancient Sony TRV-330, but I cannot use my brand new CS4 program with my Sony HDR-SR11's which are about 6 months old. (I bought two of them as a matched pair.) A simple yes or no is not sufficient. What's going on? I paid for this as being the lastest and greatest program, and it's useless.

Sorry to hear that you're surprised that your camera is not supported. The program's web page clearely states that supported formatsaer DV, HDV, and DVCPRO (http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/onlocation/features/); the SR11 is of course an AVC-HD. I could not find an indication on that page that OnLocation supports only devices connected by FireWire--I'll bring that to the attention of marketing deparment.

It's worth noting that USB port on cameras is for file transfer. USB is not designed for live streaming of video. Learn more from Tim Kolb's post on CreativeCOW: http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/212/575. In short, what you're expecting OnLocation to do is technically not possible.

A question on the supported formats you mentioned.  Is DVCAM the same as DV and MiniDV HDV the same as HDV that you mentioned.  I am on a very tight budget and looking on ebay for a cam that works.

DV (also MiniDV), DVCAM and DVCPRO (25) are all essentially the same from an "end product" point of view.  Where they differ is how the signals are stored on tape.

HDV is a different animal altogether, even though it does use essentially the same tape for recording.

All four should work fine with OnLocation.
