Dreamweaver "hangs" for several seconds when using menus

May 6, 2009 10:37 AM

Hi, this problem just started yessterday. I have CS4 and suddenly Dreamweaver "hangs" for several seconds when I try to select something under the top menus. The menu selected stays "on" but I can't select anything. I have to click over to a different screen/other open software, go back to Dreamweaver and try selecting again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it hangs again and then it "catches up." I have restarted both Dreamweaver and my computer. Seems to work for a while after restarting the computer but then it starts doing it again.

Anyone else having this problem and knows how to fix it? It's extremely annoying!

Thanks,

Hanna

There's many unmentioned factors involved that may be causing the issue. Post more details about your system and configuration to receive a more detailed recommendation to solve your problem.

I have been having these problems on both an Intel iMac and a quad-core G5. I have contacted tech support at Adobe, and they told me trash my preferences. I did that to no avail, and that just left them scratching their heads. They are acting like it never happens to anyone else, but the bottom line is that they released this version before it was ready, just so it could be included in the CS4 suite.

I suspect that the problem has to do with Dreamweaver being built on the KHTML (sic-like Safari) kernel. They cannot make the interface mesh together with all the other aspects of the program. I am hoping that they will release an update soon, but I just hit the "esc" key when it happens. Sometimes (one out of four) it works, mostly, it just brings me back to the start.

I thank God I am not being paid by the hour, because this glitch has cost me more than a week's worth of productivity since i upgraded in February.

    10.5.8 intel imac

Now that I see it's been this way for months its clear that they aint working NEARLY hard enough to fix this.

Been using adobe since 1990's when they were the marque to beat. Unrivaled quality and product at that time. They were making a lot less scratch too.

These guys are SCUM plain and simple. this DW crap is like using some freeware beta HTML editor with this menu hanging problem.

Shame on Adobe for their shabby software, reluctance to FIX what we paid for and the DISMAL OUTSOURCED bangalore customer service run by underpaid people who speak english as a second language and could give less than a flying "expletive" about their "customers".

RATS at the top of that corporation TO BE SURE.

Now they are fat and sloppy at the top and cutting corners on all the wrong expenses...

Wow looks like the big Detroit business model to me.

Good luck to the upstarts who WRITE & understand software and may these business school administrated bean counter geniuses reap what they sow.

    Jokes on me.

I've been having this same problem as well as other for years now.  I can only assume Adobe simply doesn't care?  I think the problem happens when there's certain ajax content being displayed, but I'm not sure.  Since Adobe doesn't bother to look into this I gave up a long time ago.  When this happens it makes Dreamweaver a useless tool for web development.

I'm just glad to see the tip that you can hit the escape key to stop it.  Didn't know that till now.  Of course, that only let's you try the menu again and have it hang again.

Well, I’m sure Adobe will take that out of the upgrade cost for you when they finally fix this, right?

Then again, it's been doing this for years... so I guess they just don't care.  And they wonder why piracy is such a problem, huh?
