Send an email

Jun 5, 2009 6:18 AM

I have absolutely no experience in programming or understanding any script language.  I would like to provide an email button within my CBT piece which allows the learner the opportunity to send an email (prepopulated would be a plus).  Is there anywhere I can get a step by step on how to do this.  The button once pressed should simply open an outlook message, the user then can insert the address of where the message would go.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi forgeh,

The Adobe Authorware answer is no:-

"URL forms ReadExtFile, ReadURL, NetDownload, and other functions that take a URL take only URLs of the form file: or http:. You cannot use other protocols such as mailto: in a web-packaged piece. The limitation was imposed for security reasons."

    But. . . .

You can "Jump Out Return" to an HTML page where you can use mailto: to set the email address and open OutLook.

I think the other two you need are subject: and bodytext:

Check out this answer from my old web site:-

    http://web.archive.org/web/20060621042836/www.tomorrows-key.com/faq/aw email.asp

It includes a demo file that does just what you need.
