Why does Fireworks CS4 always attempt to export the wrong image???

May 21, 2009 8:59 AM

Fireworks CS4 on Mac 10.5.7

When I have multiple images open, and do an image preview for export (Cmd-Shft-X) it ALWAYS brings up one of the other images to export.  I have to escape, click multiple times on the image I actually want to export, and try again.

CS3 did not do this.  Is this some undocumented feature???  Honestly, what kind of stupidity is this???  Maybe you thought that designers would appreciate having random results like this.  Maybe you could have the program save to a random filename everytime I press Cmd-S.  Maybe you will patch it 8 months or a year from now.  Or more probably, you will just release CS5 and we can start all over again!!!

Oh, how I miss Macromedia.  Adobe SUCKS!

Cs3 does it sometimes too, especially when you're dealing with lots of images in multiple formats and then you begin exporting in a different order... It's pretty annoying...

I too have this problem. It really is incredibly frustrating. I used to use CS3 on a PC, and it never happened. I have now "upgraded" to CS4 on a Macbook Pro and it happens all the time.

    • I have several images open in Fireworks
    • Do image preview...
    • ...a different image than the one I am currently working on is shown in the preview window.
    • Note that if you simply export without previewing, the "different" image will be exported, not the current one that you expect.

The only way round it is to

    • close the preview window,
    • click several times on the image that I do want to export,
    • then try again.

Eventually the correct image will be exported.

As you can imagine, if you're working on a dozen or more images, this is not only very frustrating but a huge waste of time. I'd be really grateful if someone can suggest a solution to the problem (maybe some setting I've missed?) or better still if Adobe can issue a patch.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I've never understand how FW gets no respect; it is the most user-friendly, intuitive and useful software application I have ever used...

You will also note that no Adobe representatives will say a word here on the forum where they are SUPPOSED to be helping us.  No, just ignore the problem and pretend it does not exist.

    ARE YOU LISTENING ADOBE???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????

    Great job!

Adobe representatives rarely post on this forum because it is a user-to-user forum, not conduit to complain to Adobe.

Sounds like a terrible bug, but nobody from Adobe is required to listen here.

Can any of you folks who like Fireworks tell me how to make the 'web layer' transparent?

I've been able to make the bitmap transparent but the resulting exported bmp image turns out opaque white where it is supposed to be transparent.

The software won't let me select only the web layer...

    thx,

    Dan H.

    btw

I've posted this question elsewhere but no solutions yet.

Read your other post. Avoid cross posting as it makes it difficult to

track answers to the original question.

Somebody on another post said that if you remove the tabbed interface view of files, then the bug goes away. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me but curious if it works for anybody else.

This does not ever happen on my Windows PC...just the Mac.
