Why won't Lightroom 2.3 suddenly not import RAW files?

Why can't I import RAW files into Lightroom 2.3? I've imported them for years, until today, after I installed a Canon  Pixma MX860 multi-purpose printer. Would this affect Lightroom? Now I get a Lightroom message: "The files could not be written." Tried to import from Canon 5D on a CF card and from a Panasonic Lumix on an SD card many times. Same result. I can pull the RAW files individually off the cards into Photoshop CS3 RAW window and adjust them, but can't on Lightroom. It won't automatically import the files and won't take them manually. Am using a PC with XP Professional. Any thoughts?

    It may be that you can copy the files onto the HD and run Import from there, as a temp workaround.

    My guess is that somehow where the files are normally improrted got changed to write back to the card, or to a directory that's locked. Have you rebooted?

    Since the installation of the printer seems to have instigated the problem, have you tried uninstalling the printer to see if LR can import again? Since it is a multi-function printer, maybe it is trying to communicate in a way that messes up LR. Also, are you importing directly from the cameras (couldn't tell that from your message)? If so, there have been reports of flaky behavior importing from cameras. Try using a card reader instead.

    Tried to import manually from the cards but that didn't work for Lightroom. It did work in getting the RAW files into Photoshop CS3. Rebooted many times. Thank you.

    I've tried importing from different cards thru a cardreader but the same result. I could try to uninstall the printer but worry that the reinstall would cause the same problem.

    If I uninstall Lightroom then reinstall it, would Lightroom preserve its current, easy-to-find filing system, or would I lose those years of filing (ex. Travel, home, boys etc.)?

    Uninstalling Lightroom will leave the catalog behind, so your develop settings, metadata, etc will all remain intact. However, removing Lightroom is a tad pointless when it was installing the multi function printer that caused the problem. If you haven't already done so try trashing the LIghtroom preference file http://forums.adobe.com/thread/358041?tstart=0

    I'm having the same problem with Lightroom 3. I have not installed a printer recently, and I use a card reader. I use a Mac, by the way.

    Are you sure it's the same problem as that user had?

     

    What error message are you getting when you try to import a raw file?

     

    What camera?

     

    What version of LR?

     

    What computer and operating system?

     

    Did your ability to import raw files just suddenly stop, or have you never been able to import them?
