wondering how thumbnails are generated. I assume the thumbnails I view in windows explorer or adobe browser are generated by the browser and are not imbedded in the original images right out of the camera, or am I wrong about this. This also brings me to assume the when I download an image off the internet that the thumbnail I see is imbedded in that images metadata to establish a link or a connection to that image. If this is the case, how do you create an thumbnail and establish that link? Thanks in advance,

You are right. Windows Explorer saves this data in a file called 'thumbs.db' and Adobe Bridge saves to .BridgeCache/.BridgeCacheT. These files are typically hidden from view but can be exposed in Windows' settings.

Most thumbnails you see on the internet are duplicate files of the larger image, simply saved at a smaller size. Try right-clicking on the thumbnail in the web page and choosing to save the image. Then left click on the tumbnail to access the larger image. Right-click on the larger image in the web page and choose to save the image. You now have the thumbnail and the original image on your computer that you can investigate/analyze.
There are some image file formats where a preview/thumbnail is embedded with the original file.
Sorry Marian but your link doesn't help me.
Assuming that the Google-search link that you sent me gives me the same response, the first link http://getanewbrowser.com/2006/08/photoshop-psd-thumbnails-in-windows- explorer/ leads to an article talking about a software called Thumbview ( released in 2004).
I've downloaded and installed it, not working, wich is not that surprising considering the time passed, I'm working on Vista 64 bits.
Any other solution ?
