I'm looking for basic tutorials on how to use some of the widgets such as checkboxes. For instance, if the user makes a choice with checkbox how can you get it to go to particular slide.

I don't see anything from the checkbox showing up in advanced interactions. How exactly would they work? I would love some examples in a captivate project!

Hi shanahyvat,

This checkbox widget is a static widget.So you can't have on click actions for it.

It works like this.

1.Create as many number of user variables as the number of check boxes you want.

2.Now insert the check box widget.

3.Go to widget parameters tab and give the number of check boxes and enter the names of the variables created by seperated by commas.

4.Also give the labels which you want for the various check boxes seperated by commas.

5.Insereted the associated varibles into a text capt

6.Now run the project check the status of the variables which you associated with the check boxes once you click the check boxes.

7.Now you can use the status these variables to check which check box was clicked.

I am attaching cp project and a demo SWF. Have a look.

This is great, thanks!

The only think I had to look up was how to create variables, its in the Project>Actions menu.

Hi Vikram

Have you by chance sorted how to coax the check boxes to be set?

For example, I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to do this.

Insert the widget on perhaps Slide 1.

Configure the widget with three variables.

Variables are named:

* S2 (for slide 2)

* S3 (for slide 3)

* S4 (for slide 4)

After playing slides 2, 3 or 4, set the variables so that upon returning to Slide 1, the check marks indicate you have visited the slides.

Can't seem to make it work that way. It seems the only way to use it is by clicking directly on the widget.

Cheers... Rick

Hi Rick,

To acheive this you need to modify the source code of the check box widget. Try to modify the check box FLA file. Let me know if you need help.

Looking for some help on the checkboxes....I followed the exact instructions of the checkbox demo but keep encountering the same problem: when I click on one checkbox, the var1 is reflected. When I click on checkbox 2, instead of appearing on var2, the value replaces var 1. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I need some help with the checkboxes. I followed the demo above but keep encountering the same problem. When I click on checkbox 1, var 1 is reflected. When I click on checkbox 2, not only is it NOT reflected in var2, but it replaces the var1 value. Can anyone help? I attached the file.

Please,

Could you insert a screenshot of the tab 'Widget Parameters'? Do you use the AS2 or the AS3 widget? Did you create the user variables needed? Just tried (again) the workflow described in this thread and it works all right.

Unfortunate that there are no instructions in the Adobe captivate Help docs for checkbox widgets. No explanation as to why the swf box cannot be resized, for example.

New to Captivate using Captivate 5 and I'm trying to figure out the checkbox widget. I'm unable to open the tutorial links in this thread. I am also wondering if reporting from a checkbox is possible. I am trying to figure out if I can have learners use the created project as an on going tool and can use a checkbox to "check" off completed tasks each week. Is this possible?

Thanks!

Hello

Checkbox is a static widget, which means that reporting to a LMS like an interactive object or a question slide is not possible.

You can use advanced actions however to create scores. I tried to work out some examples about using checkbox and radio button widgets for custom questions. Here is the link to the blog post, that has also a link to an article in which the advanced actions are explained in detail:

Widgets and custom questions - part 1
