Help making buttons

I am trying to make an image button but it turns out looking faded(pixelized) and just poor quality, i set the resolution for the image to 150pixels per inch and the image should be 50x10 pixels quite small i know. But i already have a set of images i downloaded and i can't get near the quality they have, my attempt attached is home.gif and an exmaple of one i download is clothing.gif. The clothing.gif uses a different font but still mine is way worse than it. Maybe if's just a font thing.??

Any idea what i can do to improve the quailty,

Are these Buttons for the Web, interactive Flash presentations or Video for use in DVD/BD? Each can have major differences.

The buttons are not too small, they are for a menu bar on a web page, here is a bigger version, notice how my "home.gif" looks poor qauality and the "my account.gif" look profressional, how do they make it look so nice and clean and sharp?

use the camera icon as the Attach Files command is buggy at the moment:

I'd say the problem is with the font that you are using, it's not meant to be used at such small sizes, you'll have to use another font. Oh and by the way, resolution in ppi means absolutely nothing on the web, it only matters when printing, the only thing important on the web are the pixel dimensions

You have no antialiasing on your text. Check your tool options bar or the character palette and enable one of the methods. When saving to GIF or PNG, then make sure to allow a sufficient number of colors to not destroy your effort again.

I'd say go the other way, disable Anti-Aliasing as it makes type set at small point sizes blurrier and harder to read (you get eyestrain from trying to focus on the blurry type). In any case,you should change the font to something suited for small point sizes and maybe also increase the size of the type
