Hi all,
We are considering to start using a few new components from Spark component set, namely s:List or s:DataGroup while mixing them with existing Halo Flex 3 SDK components.
In our workflow, we are using automation testing approach for our UI together with QTP.
Thus, to help us with this decision to make, we would like to know the answer to the following question.
Will new set of Spark components be "automation ready" for automation testing when Flash Builder 4 and Flex SDK 4 is released in 1Q2010?
Hi Ram!
Without any doubt we need the support for automation testing for new Spark components.
Our QA team owns multi-seat license for Mercury QTP automated testing solution, they wrote thousands of lines in Visual Basic alike script to test both our application made with Flex 3 SDK and plain HTML.
I personally wrote a few automation delegates for our custom components that extend from UIComponent and also I use a few monkey patches for existing automation delegates from Flex 3.3 SDK to fix issues for myself:

http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FLEXENT-1016
http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FLEXENT-1012
If Spark components are not automation ready at the time of the release, I am afraid we will have to postpone immediately all development efforts to integrate any of Spark components into our application.
I acknowledge that automation testing of Flex components is not something that 95% of Flex developers are worry about (judging by the view count for this forum post), but for us, team of Flex developers of complex RIA applications based on Flex SDK targeted at enterprises - automated testing of the existing functionality at the client side is vital.
Please, if you abandon the plans to make Spark components to be automation ready till the time of the release, please let the know community immediately, it will help us to adjust our development plans.
Hi,
Thanks for the feedback! I am glad you are using automation extensively. We hear you loud and clear on the importance:-)
This is definitely at the top of our list at this point. We are still finalizing the details around the level of support we will have for spark automation in Flex 4, but our hope is that we can provide at least the bare minimum to get you going.
Thanks
Ram
Will it help your team to make a right decision if I will create an ticket at Adobe JIRA bug-base related to this task and ask more people who are in need of this functionality to vote?
There was similar attempt to collect votes for Flash Builder 4 to support generation of tests for FlexUnit4
and it had worked to some extent (Adobe engineers had commited to maintain bare minimum support for FlexUnit4 in Flash Builder 4)
