Aligning Nos. in a numbered list

Good morning,

I have been trying to set up a numbered list so that the numbers align decimally, that is, so that 1 thru 9 will indent a figure space and will align with the 0 in 10 (or the second 1 in eleven). If I remember correctly you could do this in Ventura by making the number fr with an in from right setting. Can't figure out how to do it in ID CS4. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    You need to add a decimal or left-aligned tab to the style and insert a tab before the number. You can add the tab as part of the numbering style.

    Scott,

     

    I can never get this to work right in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box. I choose 'Right' Alignment but the number doesn't align right. Is this a bug?

    when you say "add the tab as part of the numbering style" do you mean in the number field? when I try that I get an error stating" a tab char. in the number field is not in a valid location, please delete the tab or make it the last character in the field." Making it last doesn't help me out.

    Jon,

     

    He probably means do it the old tabs method and not use the Bullets and Numbers selection from the Paragraph fly-out menu. I can't get this to work in CS4 Windows either.

    It does work in CS4.  If you have the Bullet or Number position aligned to the right, but they're not lining up -- just increase the First Line Indent by increments until they do.

    This may be the old-fashioned way to do it but here's how I make them line up. Put a 1 in front of the digits 1 through 9 and color it None.
