Geotagging support

Aug 9, 2009 9:54 AM

I would like to see geotagging support, so that viewers can use latitude and longitude data embedded in the EXIF data to show them where the photo was taken.  Is this functionality on the horizon?

It's not currenlty available in photoshop.com, though that is something that Photoshop Elements can do, and has been doing, for a couple of releases now.

(I know this is more Photoshop Elements than Photoshop.com...but it's pretty tough to draw the line between them as a user sometimes):

The geo tagging is there, but it would be nice to have coordinates from a geo-tagged label get written to photos.  For example, since I (like most folks) don't have cameras that do automatic geo-tagging, I put the coordinates into the "Keyword Tags" under the "Places" category.  I thought this would put geo tags into the camera metadata...but it doesn't.  I'm not sure what the purpose of allowing the geo tagging of keyword tags is, but it would be nice to have that data transfered to the images given that tag (at least the option to push it manually).

    Thanks.

It's been a while since I've worked on the Photoshop Elements project, but I thought that assigning a location to a tag would (eventually) write the info to the file, albeit to a GPS block of data, not exif.

You should check in with the Photoshop Elements forum to see if they have more specific guidance.

If you're interested in geo tagging photos, DO NOT GET Photoshop Elements Version 8!  Stick with Version 7, since version 8 creates a massive and unresolved issue for GPS info in photos.

There are several threads about this in the PSE forum, and I've spent MANY hours trying to fix the corruption of EXIF data that PSE8 caused.

It seems Robogeo and Locr support heading, horizon.

and will photoshop support Easytagger (www.e-geotag.com  www.easytagger.ca ) since it has many features more than photoshop and other geotagging software can support.

Many of us use UTM. I wish the rest of the world would not overlook that fact.

Yes, it is the basic that latitude and longitude data embedded in the EXIF data to show them where the photo was taken. Some gps can also record heading.Eztag Bluetooth gps(www.e-geotag.com) is a newly released geotagging device, which can geotag three cameras at the same time.

Did you manage to resolve the gps data from keywords to get into your exif data of your photo?
