Snow Leopard and NO shockwave player

recently completed a fresh install of Snow Leopard but i cannot install shockwave player; stating

"Incompatible OS version! Adobe Shockwave Player id supported on MacOS 10.4/10.5"

 

Does anyone know of this or has a solution?

i have tried both the PPC/Intel versions in both slim and full.

    Theoretically SW should have been working with Snow Leopard when it was released. Unfortunately, Adobe dropped the ball again. There is hope in the community they are working on it, but they're so opaque that hope is all it is. In the meantime perhaps this news update from ExploreLearning will help.

    Quick fix if you want to install Shockwave Player on 10.6 before Adobe has released a fixed version:

     

    Download Shockwave Slim Installer and mount the disk image.

     

    Open Terminal.app (in the Utilities folder), then run the following command (it's a oneliner):

     

    cp -Rp /Volumes/Adobe\ Shockwave\ 11/Shockwave_Installer_Slim.pkg ~/Desktop/ && cp /usr/bin/false ~/Desktop/Shockwave_Installer_Slim.pkg/Contents/Resources/Installatio nCheck && open ~/Desktop/Shockwave_Installer_Slim.pkg

     

    Worked for me, and it should work for you, but I take no responsibility

    Wow - I haven't seen anyone from Adobe around here for literally decades! What's changed? Is this going to be a regular phenomenon (Adobe participating in their forums) or is this just a drive-by?

    Thanks for all the replies, i haven't tried the "terminal" idea as i dont want to play with this, when i dont know anything about it.

    At the moment i'll wait for ADOBE to fix this problem, as it hasn't directly affected me yet. (clearly the presence of an ADOBE employee is something new) not that i have noticed.

    Well Sean, it's hard to tell. 

     

    I've come full circle in some ways. When I started at Macromedia in 1995 I supported FreeHand and Director.   Then mostly Flash and Flash Player.

     

    Now I have Flash and Flash Player AND I've gotten Director and Shockwave back.  So  that's what's changed.  But my bandwidth for Dir/SW is very low (as you can imagine, Flash Player consumes most of my time).  And of course the official line is these are peer-to-peer forums and they're unsupported.  I try to give them a little bit of my time though.

     

    And if you have an open support case that's not getting resolved I'm always interested in those (those I'll even respond to a private message about).

     

    So that's why I'm here. Again. After all this time.

    Hi Bbbent - welcome back! It will be great having someone around that can front-foot the many and various issues that come up here. Am I right in hoping you have Sujai's ear, or are there layers between you and actual engineers?

     

    Can we anticipate that you'll also appear in the various Director forums too? How much experience have you had with Director in the intervening years? Is your being "handed back"  Director and SW a recent occurence, and if so does it suggest that D/SW12 is just around the corner?

     

    If you are wanting to cut your teeth on something you could look into problems with installing Shockwave on 64-bit versions of Windows OSes as it comes up pretty frequently. Search this forum for examples

    Sean, you're getting way too excited about this. It's not going to be like John Dowdell circe 1993.... I just don't have the bandwidth.

     

    All I'm going to say is this.. I'm the senior-most support agent in the org, and I'll try to get in here when I can.  If you have issues, absolutely file support cases via phone (for Director owners) or webcase (for Shockwave end users).  We'll get those through the system and do what we can. And if at some point you feel you're not getting a good answer then Private Message me with the case #.

     

    I'm already looking into documenting SW 64-bit installs in the next week or two.

     

    The Snow Leopard install has a technote in review right now. Looks like you'll have to run Safari in 32-bit mode to use Shockwave.  And don't ask me "when will Shockwave for 64-bit Mac be out?" because I don't know.

    So why does Shockwave work on the other browsers I use (i.e. Firefox and Opera). Recently deleted/downloaded Shockwave once again hoping something would appear in Safari. No such luck.

    Because they're not 64-bit apps, Safari is.  See this technote:

    I discovered yesterday that there is now a 64 bit version of Shockwave. You can find it at the Adobe site under Downloads/Shockwave. It seem to work fine, and is much faster and smoother than running Safari in 32 bit mode. THANK YOU ADOBE!
