Since upgrading to Mac OS X 10.6, Flex Builder is functioning extremely poorly. The worst issue is that I am experiencing extreme slowness when typing code. I type a few letters and then have to wait a few seconds for my text to fully appear. The is happening in both Flash Builder beta and Flex Builder 3. There are also some other quirks--the column down the left side of the editor, where line numbers appear, periodically stops updating so that error and debug markers never disappear until I restart Eclipse.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can at least fix the text issue?
I have a very strange issue where the line numbers don't scroll, but only on my second monitor. So if I scroll through a file, the lines move but the line numbers are fixed. If I then move the window over to my main laptop monitor the line number correct them selves and start scrolling again...
This has only happened since updating to Snow Leopard and I have re installed Flex builder since, with no resolution.
My second monitor is View Sonic, and I'm running a 15" MacBook Pro (pre unibody)
Wow, you're completely right. I hadn't noticed the second monitor issue until just now because Flex/Flash Builder is almost always on the second. Line numbers scroll just fine on my primary monitor.
Also, has anyone noticed a crazy amount of CPU usage when Flex/Flash Builder is Building the workspace or launching the application? When I look at the processes in Activity Monitor, a process called "fontd" uses ~95%. I've done some searching and all I can find is it has something to do with system fonts. Most people recommend clearing your font caches by booting into Safe Mode and/or using Font Book to resolve any duplicate fonts. I've tried both multiple times, yet the problem is still there. Any ideas?
I can verify the second monitor issue as well. And my slowness problem also seems to be related to fonts. If I have the editor font set to anything but the default Monaco, I get extreme slowness when typing. When I created a new workspace and didn't change the default settings, speed returned to normal. If I change the font again, the slowness returns. I did not have this behavior before upgrading my mac to snow leopard.
What make of monitors are you guys using. Is it all additional monitors or just non apple ones?
If I mirror my display or alternate which is the default, it still breaks on the ViewSonic monitor, must be something to do with the drivers and Java.
Anyone have the scroll problem with other apps?
I'm working on a 15" Macbook Pro connected to a Dell 2407WFP. Also, I'm using all the default fonts for Flash Builder so I don't know if I should change it to see if that improves the font performance. Also, I seem to only have this problem when it is building/compiling. If I'm just in source mode typing, it runs fine.
I can also confirm the same problem ,this is my setup:
This is really slowing me down, since working on the 15" screen is a hassle when handling code. My setup worked fine in Leopard. Hope Adobe figures this one out soon
Greetings,
You can follow progress (if any) on this using the bug tracker: http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-23023
I have found that by fiddling with Display preferences on my MacBook I can get the external screen to work. Not sure exactly what controls it, though.
That "fix" doesn't work for me shanezx3odonnell
If I change my dock to be on my second monitor it still doesn't work.
Just as a matter of interest, I am having the exact same problem with Snow Leopard.
However, my primary screen is already the screen Flex is running on.
It is possibly getting mixed up about this though as I frequently disconnect the MacBook Pro from the main screen. I thought I had restarted with the large monitor as the main screen but maybe not.
Certainly if I drag the flex window over to the MBP screen, scrolling starts working again.
