swf file size

Sep 14, 2009 2:47 PM

Hi,

why swf files size are big? (made by flex). Is this a general situation?

I used apple accordion in my site (but I changed it a little bit):

http://www.nikahyolu.com

But swf file size is 300 kb. According to me, it should be max. 30-40 kb.

any ideas?

Thanx...

Flex is a framework, providing a lot of functionality (or, depending on how you look at it, bringing a lot of baggage). A swf size of 300kb is common (and, actually, on the small side). You could try using framework RSLs, but they're not a perfect fit (your users may still need to download them if they do not have them cached), and if you have really tight size constraints, a framework may not be the right thing for you (not just Flex, but any framework).

I wish Adobe added base flex framework into flash player installer.

I believe this actually has been discussed. I don't recall what came out of it, and I can't find much info on it now, but it certainly would be handy.
