Updater generate huge abnormal traffic to ardownload.adobe.com

Dec 1, 2008 10:36 AM

More than 40Gb was downloaded by reader autoupdater from ardownload.adobe.com. But nothing was updated. Do you think it's normal for less than 30Mb software?

I've got the same problems with Adobe Reader 8.12. Over the last 2 weeks Adobe updater has generated over 3GB of traffic. The only Adobe software I've got installed is Adobe Reader 8.12, except for the Flash and Shockwave plugins for the web browser. WebMarshal reports:

    b ardownload.adobe.com

So only during these 2 minutes it connected and downloaded something 8 times. And this goes on for another few hours on this particular day and newer dates as well. I've seen this behaviour on another computer as well. It's doing more download attempts but haven't done anything like my 3GB yet. Is there anything that can be done to fix this problem (except for turning off automatic updates, which I've done)?

I've had this on multiple pc's now and across the board have downloaded over a TB of data, I've resorted to blocking ardownload.adobe.com for now.

    Adobe products installed.
    -Adobe Acrobat 8.1.0 Professional
    -Adobe flash player 10 plugin
    -Adobe Flash player Active X
    -Adobe Reader 8.1.0

As you can imagine, I'm far from impressed with the excess usage charges incurred because of the Adobe Updater.

I'd love to hear back from Adobe on this issue.

    Regards,
    Michael

Maybe you should contact Adobe; this is a user-to-user forum.

If you are using WebMarshal 6.1.5. or above, here's the workaround:
