sgml authored in framemaker to arbortext

URGENT!!! Can someone tell me why end user (who is using arbortext) is having problems with reading the sgml file that was authored using framemaker? Apparently, the data came through but they're saying that the tables didn't come through.

Which versions of both FM and Arbortext are involved?

Re: sgml authored in framemaker to arbortext

mkhuuca1,

There are literally an infinite number of reasons that this may happen, since the S in SGML does not necessarily enforce a standard markup for tables. If the tables are not using the CALS model, which sounds likely based on the limited information you've given, the notion of a table becomes an arbitrary formatting artifact that Arbortext wouldn't know anything about.

Having said that, though, with the small amount of info you've provided, it is very unlikely that anyone out here could provide much conclusive assistance. This is a complex subject with an unlimited number of possible pitfalls.

Well, again, the concept of a table is a formatting artifact that a DTD doesn't know anything about... it is created in FrameMaker by use of your read/write rules and the EDD. If you did not use a common, recognizable structure model such as CALS, your element names won't mean anything to Arbortext as-is. That's not to say that Arbortext can't render the tables... but it does mean that additional stylesheet work will be required on the Arbortext end to recognize them.
