Issue with the Code Block

Nov 9, 2009 6:12 AM

I posted a recipe today and had a hard time making the Code Block part readable.

I had a long enough code with much commenting on the same.
But when selected the code and applied Code Block Feature, the whole code broke into peices.
I then had to go to Source View and rectified the things. But then as soon as I published, things were still not readable.
I had to trim my code again to very short lines.
But as soon as I published, the Code Block itself broken into peices. There were now 10 Code Blocks though I asked for only 1.
I then had to delete the unnecassary <pre> tags that had come up in between.
The view doesn't have any breaks now, but I still doubt any body will find it easy to go through.

The problem that I see is, the Editor View, the Source View and the Published view, all the three are behave differently.
Besides there is no preview button to view before publishing.
And can I expect the view to accomodate more words, currently the view shows me around 60-70 words per row.
This is necessary because the Code Block needs to be understandable with the code statement in it's own line rather than broken, else it's becomes very hard to read.
Wouldn't it be nice if the editor that I'm using for posting this feedback gets used their even. Then we will not have the problem of different Formatter Blocks.

    Hello Amit,

Thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback, as well as to contribute to the Adobe Cookbook.

We are aware of the difficulties contributors are experiencing when trying to format the code in their recipes and are looking into potential solutions.  Additionally, we definitely have a Preview button scheduled in a future cookbook update.

    Thank you.

    Hello.

Quick update.  Based on user feedback we have included a new code formatter for contributors when creating a recipe.  Examples of a recipe with the old code formatting vs the new formatting are below.

    Old | New

We are still working on making the area wider so long lines of code do not break and wrap on the next line.

Additionally we have added a preview button, but be warned that the code displays in the old formatting in Preview mode.  We are working on this issue.

Thanks again for your feedback; we are listening and are continually trying to make the cookbook a better experience.
