Dreamweaver CS4: Can't preview images from remote server when designing HTML emails

Nov 23, 2009 9:38 AM

I need help and I can't seem to find any answers on this issue. I am working on designing a HTML email newsletter in Dreamweaver CS4 and when I work locally on my html file, using relative linked images from my images folder, all is fine. I can see the images in design view without problems. I uploaded the images to my web server so I could reference them with absolute paths in my html email. But when I edit my local html file in dreamweaver and change the image reference paths to absolute paths on my web server, I cannot preview the images in dreamweaver. I can see them if I do a "preview in browser", but I want to be able to see them within dreamweaver and not see broken image gray boxes in place of where my images should be.

What is causing this to happen and is there someway to fix this?

Note: I have "View->Display External Files" checked on, but this doesn't seem to make a difference.

Also, the html file is not defined in a site, it is a standalone file from a folder on my system.

And, when I turn on the "Live View" my images are represented by question marks in blue boxes. (see example)

I must be missing something, so any help is greatly appreciated!

SO....I think this is a firewall or proxy issue...can anyone help with some advice of recommendations on how to fix this so I can see these images in my design view at work?

Open the Preferences panel from the Edit menu (Dreamweaver menu on a Mac), and select Site. Enter the details of the firewall host in the appropriate field. Change the port if necessary.
