Page Reference / Page Updating Problem

Nov 24, 2009 1:22 PM

Hi,

I've created a book using CS3 and am unable to update the page reference numbers using the Xref plug-in. I've edited the references and destinations, but p.??? continues to be displayed upon updating the page numbers. For some references, when editing the destination, the proper destination tag appears in the destination field. For others, random text appears in the destination field. I'm a novice InDesign user, so I may be overlooking something very basic, however, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Mark

If you're using the DTP Tools cross-reference plug-in for InDesign, contact them at www.dtptools.com. Their tech support is conscientious, thorough, and prompt. However, they're in Europe, so their day is somewhat out of synch with the day in the US, so you may have a few hours' lag in responses, depending on the time of day.

It's possible that your document has become corrupted. You can try exporting the document to interchange .INX format, then opening the .INX file, saving the document, and checking the x-refs. This .INX "round trip" often repairs corrupted documents. If the problem is with x-refs across documents, perform the .INX round-trip operation with them as well.

Is there anything different about the x-refs that work and those that don't? For example, are they all within one document, or all in cross-document x-refs? Are they all in text frames that are threaded or unthreaded, all on the same layer or different layers, etc? There may be clues in this kind of analysis.

    Regards,

    Peter
