Jan 12, 2010 3:51 PM

I just install Snow Leopard on 3 Mac today and they all have the same problem now. We can't open an CS3 Indesign document by double clicking an icon. We have to go into the tool bar (open--» document).

When I try by double clicking, this window now appear :

There's a known issue opening files from finder in SL. Seems to rear it's ugly head with characters such as # in the file name.

There's already a solution. Stop using things like # and @ in file names. In today's crossplatform world, it's really a bad practice, anyway.

Other than that I haven't got a clue.

Do you know if there will be a solution soon?

You'd have to ask Apple -- it's an OS problem -- but I'd say the odds are slim to none.

I just don't get it: why doe people work like this? Simply start up InDesign and use 'Document > Open'. This prevents opening older versions of the programm etc. etc.

    >For the last one... Simply a useless post!

    I thank you.

My argument is however still valid ;-)

You can open from Bridge, or from within ID. If you must open the file using Finder, then you will have to remove the # symbol.

Apple has switched Snow Leopard to a pure UNIX file system, and those characters aren't recognized properly.

    Just for your information.

Rorohiko Ltd. has just released a new version of Soxy, which lets you do just this.

If you don't know what Soxy does, here is a brief description:

There’s a common problem when there are multiple versions of applications like Adobe® InDesign®, QuarkXPress®, Adobe Illustrator®… installed on the same computer.

Double-clicking a file’s icon will often cause the wrong application version to launch. As a result, you might unwittingly re-save a document into a more recent file format, which could be a bad thing. Maybe it’s a customer file, and the customer might not be able to open the updated file when you e-mail it back to them.

Soxy acts like an interceptor when opening documents and redirects the files to the appropriate applications of your choice.

Our latest version has an option in the preferences that lets Soxy override the Finder's behaviour when there are '#' characters in an InDesign file name.
