I think this should be a must. Something good from PrProCS4 (ie, sequences formats indipendent from project) would be appreciated in Encore CS4. The need should be:
- Start a project at frame aspect of 16/9 (both NTSC and PAL)
- Import sequences or assets 4/3 or 16/9
- Build DVD at 16/9 FAR with side-letterbox/crop/squeeze option for 4/3 assets
At the moment there is no way to do this (Encore CS4)
I do not work for Adobe, but I doubt that what you want will ever be an Encore feature
Premiere is the editor, and it is designed so you may import in one format and export into a different format
Encore is the author, and it is designed to use DVD or BR legal files to create the DVD or BR disc... not to alter input files
You should be able to do this.
There is no reason you cannot mix aspect ratios on a DVD, and Encore is an abstraction layer tool so it will automatically put the 4:3 footage into a different VTS than the 16:9 footage - Are you certain Encore cannot do this?? I was fairly certain it can as long as the source footage is correctly interpreted.
Where you WILL run into trouble is with the problem that you have no control at all over how cheap players will handle this - especially over an HDMI connection that will more than likely stretch the 4:3 out to 16:9 and make everyone look like Danny DeVito.
Additionally, framing 4:3 in a 16:9 serquence will look strange on a 4:3 TV set - a little postage stamp in the middle of the TV.
