I like to export my images to work in PS CS4 then import back into LR by just saving. Usually when I export an image using "Edit in" menu Lightroom 2 will ask me if I want to edit a copy, a copy with adjustments or the original. Recently it stopped asking and creates a .tiff that doesnt import back into Lightroom when I save it in Photoshop Cs4. How might I get that option back?
TIA,
Amelia
Amelia,
Possible reasons:
The options of whether to edit a copy, a copy with adjustments or the original is only presented for RAW files. Also, the option "Stack with Original" is not given if you work out of a collection, but it still should import the saved TIFF into LR (and the collection).

Actually the options are only given for non-RAW files such as tiff, psd or jpg. For RAW files, the RAW is directly sent to Photoshop's ACR and a window should open with the name of the RAW file (such as _DSC9871.NEF) as the window title. So there will be NO dialog if you do "Edit in Photoshop" from a RAW file, except when you have an old version of Photoshop and/or ACR. Then when you save from Photoshop, a tiff file will be created according to the preference settings in Lightroom that will be automatically added to Lightroom. Sometimes when you have a filtered view in Lightroom that filters out tiff files or are sorting not according to date or name, the file will end up all the way at the end of the view instead of next to the file you were editing. It is likely that the image got imported into Lightroom but you simply did not see it.
Well, Im importing raw images then right clicking and choosing "Edit in Photoshop". Which takes me to CS4, in CS4 I see the raw filename (upper left) and once I hit ctrl+s to save it renames the filename to somefilename.tiff. I keep my windows in split view so I can see the image being re-imported into Lightroom (2) then I edit further in Lightroom.
But this no longers happens. Ive set my filters to none and sort view to "capture order" so that the tiff would appear next to the original. I thought the same perhaps I was just not seeing it. But as I've selected that entire folder to view the contents and still dont see it I think this means its either not being re-imported OR is being put in another folder (for some very strange reason). I'd like to do a search of the catalog by filename of that tiff to be sure. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks for all the help,
Amelia
So I used Filter, Text, Filename then entered the filename that CS4 gave my image. I searched the folder then the entire catalog, that filename doesnt exist. So I guess that means LR2 is just not re-importing my images after I edit and save them. I didnt think it was but this verifies it. Whats a girl to do??

I think the weird thing about the preferences file is that is not there! I havent deleted it, but there is no:
Preferences.agprefs
file on my system. Im using Windows 7 and a search gives me no results. The file path in the instructions below does not exist. There is no AppData under my user name folder. There is however a small orange lock icon on the folder which I can still open but I wonder if this is preventing me from seeing it..

Preferences are located in the Lightroom 2 Preferences.agprefs file, located in the Users/[username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences folder.
Thanks,
A
Amelia,
Could it be that the folder is marked hidden, and you haven't switched on Show hidden files and folders? Make sure you have "Show hidden files and folders" switched on and try finding your preferences folder thru the Preferences Menu (Preferences, Presets tab, Show Lightroom Presets Folder ...).

To find App Data in Windows 7 you must:
Start
Run
Type in %appdata% (this is now a junction fobackwards compatibility)
I deleted the preferences file and restarted lightroom, then synchronized my folder. Now I see the edited tiff in LR. But must I do this from now on? As I said before, this use to happen automatically.
Bases I've covered:
Verified the images are not re-importing (not that I havent seen them)
Reset Prefs
Synchonized Folders
As of now I have to manually re-import or synchronize to see edited tiffs.
Hopefully Im closer to the solution!
