text problem

Mar 8, 2010 9:23 PM

Not sure if it shoud do this but once I have created a text layer  and then left it, if I want to return to the text layer to modify
the colour of the text.  Once I select the text tool and highlight the text photoshop creates a new layer( text layer ) above the l
ayer I am trying to modify.  I have watched videos on Lynda.com and this does not appear to be the default.  I beleive it should hig
hlight and then allow me to select a swatch change colour and the text colour should automatically update. It does not do this.

Photoshop Extended CS4

Windows 7

You have to be quite accurate when clicking with the text tool. Sounds like you might be clicking slightly off the text creating a new layer. Try targeting between two letters.

Double-click on the icon in the text layer in the Layers panel to select the text.
