Flash Player causing Firefox to hang

Hi there, I am having an issue with Firefox hanging everytime I try to navigate away from a page that contains Flash Player. Does anyone have an answer as to why this happens?

My Computer specs:
     Intel Core Duo (2.4Ghz)
     Windows XP
     Internet Explorer 6
     Firefox 3.6
     Kaspersky 6.0.4 (Anti-virus and firewall)

My Flash information:

No real answer, other than I've both heard and experienced this frequently. As much as I dislike M$, Silverlight will prevail as Flash deteriorates.

Hi jc, You have a mix of Flash files, some are missing and some that are there are correct and some I have no idea where

they may have come from.

Thanks for the info, since providing that I can give you some directions.

1. Go to Add/Remove and Remove the DLM(download manager), and if the getPlus is there, Remove it also.

While you are there, Remove ALL Java listings, since they are old.(I'll give you info on Installing the latest)

After you have Removed all of the above, Reboot your computer(restart)

Go back to your FF extensions and make sure the DLM, getPlus and Java entries have been removed also(by the removal of them from Add/Remove)

You are going to need to Uninstall Flash Player and Install the latest, but let's get the above done first.

I've uninstalled the Adobe Download Manager, and all the Java installions. (4 in total)

I checked my Firefox extenstions list, and now the only thing listed is the "Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.1".

What should I do next?

Hi jc, I am late getting back on.(errands and unexpected company):-)

Ok, thanks for the update. Now we are going to install the latest Java. This is the link:

http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

When the site opens, look for "Here are the Java SE downloads in detail" Then look for "What Java do I need?"

To the right click on "Download JRE" This is the one you want. Click on it and you'll see "Select Platform & Language

for your download" Click on the arrow and Select Windows; check box to agree to license info. Skip over the user

name and password info and click on Continue. Next, disregard any installer info, etc. Look for i586 & you want Offline

Install. After that just follow the instructions. You will SAVE this to your Desktop. After that, close all browsers and click

on it and RUN. After it is fully installed, Reboot your computer.

Open a  browser and go to Programs and Features and confirm that JRE 6 update 18 is listed. Close that out and go to

IE add ons, all sections and post back all Java add ons installed, including BHO's and ActiveX Controls.

Do the same using FF.

So I downloaded and installed the latest Java, and here is the list of what I got in my addons:

In Internet Explorer addons:  (from Sun Microsystems)

     - Java Plug-in 1.6.0_18 (jp2iexp.dll)

     - Java Plug-in 1.6.0_18 (jp2iexp.dll)

     - Java Plug-in 1.6.0_18 (npjpi160_18.dll)

     - Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper (jp2ssv.dll)

     - JQSIEStartDetectorImpl Class (jqs_plugin.dll)

In Firefox addons:

     - Java Console 6.0.18

     - Java Quick Starter 1.0

Good work jc! You are a good student:-) All Java add ons in IE are correct and FF also. Nice.

Now that we have all of that out of the way, we can Uninstall and Install FP

This is the Uninstaller that you will download and SAVE to your Desktop:

This is the Installer FOR INTERNET EXPLORER, download and SAVE to your Desktop:

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe

This is the Installer FOR FIREFOX, download and SAVE to your Desktop:

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe

After those are on your Desktop, you will do the following:

Close ALL browsers

Disconnect from the Internet

Disable All Anti-Virus/Spyware and any Firewall other than Windows Firewall Also check to make sure no applications that use Flash are running, check the system tray.

RUN the Uninstaller Once. Then Reboot and RUN the Uninstaller again(to make sure old files are removed)

Then RUN the Installer for IE and Reboot ONCE

Then RUN the Installer for FF and Reboot ONCE

Re-enable your Anti-Virus/Spyware and Firewall

Re-Connect back to the Internet.

Then using IE first, go to the test site:http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about

Then using FF do the same test.

Then post back the results or if there were any problems and/or any messages.

Both Firefox and IE6 are displaying flash player content without hanging!

Thank you so much!!!

A small note: I didn't disable my Anti-virus or Firewall because my system admins told me not to bother, and I can't disable it without their passwords. Thankfully, it worked without having to disable them!
