Thanks.
Can I ask another question? I downloaded the file for Text to Speech. After it downloaded I clicked on the exe and that seemed to run, but I don't see the files anywhere. Am I missing something?
Thanks.

Hi there
Text to Speech installation is a bit misleading.
Essentially you download a file from the Adobe site. You run that file and think you are done. Nope, all you did was to extract other files that you have to run to actually install the voices. Then after you install, you restart Captivate.
The link below depicts what happens.

Hello HerrG,
Just an FYI for you.
It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibility.)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx
In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
Thanks again,
John M.

I'm just finishing up a 30 day trial of C4 on my windows 7 ultimate/ 32 bit desktop. I have one Captivate 4 license for my laptop (educator, so 1 machine) and I really wanted to have it on one of the desktops that I use at home. I did not even attempt an install on my 64bit vista desktop, but this windows 7 system runs so well I thought I'd cross my fingers. I knew there could be issues, but I have had absolutely no problems at all. I did take a couple of precautions that I think served me well. I downloaded the trial and then turned off my internet connection and my anti virus and firewall for as long as I could during the actual installation process, I've been guilty in the past of neglecting that step and regretting it, but I sincerly believe this time it is the sole reason why I've had such good luck when so many others are having issues the 7 32 bit combo. Please note that I am running 7 ultimate, and perhaps that makes a difference as well. I do hope my little "testimonial" will encourage others who might like to give C4 and Windows 7 a go.
I installed the trial version of Captivate 4 along with the patch recommended in several posts. I run Captivate in Administrator mode and in XP (sp3) compatibility mode on a W7 32-bit machine. When I try to Record, when I get to the point of Captivate counting down 3 - 2 - 1 and when the recording should begin, Captivate quits. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Have a solution?
I'm running C4 as administrator in Windows 7, 64 bit. I'm thrilled at how well it handles audio and audio editing once I downloaded the patch and updates. But what's stopping me cold is that it won't capture my simulation. No full motion capture, no mouse click, not automatic text box - - - nothing. Anyone know how to make this work?

Susann

Couple of questions here:
1. Seems like you have tried to Record with Audio option. Are you able to record without audio? Select 'No Narration' in the Audio dropdown(see below).
2. What all options do you see for 'Audio Devices' dropdown in the Audio Settings window? To get the Audio Settings window, go to Audio menu -> Settings menu item.
3. Are you able to record audio for a slide? Try following steps:
- Go to Audio menu.
- Select the 'Record' menu-item and try recording audio for a slide.
4. Are you able to record audio using Window's default sound recorder?
Do let us know with your answers so that we could help you resolve your issue.

What mode did you try recording in - Captivate has three modes for recording:
- Automatic Recording
- Full Motion Recording
- Manual Recording - User needs to manually take screenshots using a hotkey.

adobe.com/products/captivate - Captivate 5! this time on MAC too!
Hi Manish
For what it's worth, Captivate 4 doesn't record on my Windows 7 64 bit either. Doesn't really matter what mode I choose. The only way I seem to be able to coax it to grab a screen capture is by clicking the red recording frame.

HI Rick,
Initial click to record automatically. Captures first frame. I could end the recording by doing as you say . . . clicking and wiggling the red recording frame . . . and then pressing the END key would work to end it. Just clicking END did nothing. It would only capture frame 1 though, with the mouse somewhere in the frame. Bummed. Hoping Captivate 5 might fare better.

Hi there
So you don't even get the screen capture occurring when clicking the red recording rectangle? I get at least that. Then once I have clicked it and it has captured, it allows me to press the End key to end the recording. I suppose because the application has gained focus and is listening for the keypress.
Other than that, though, it seems to behave as you describe.

Hi All,
We have observed that recording in Captivate 4 behaves in an unpredicted way on win 7 64 bit. We have seen cases where the feature works without any issues and vice-versa.
Before making any conclusions in this regard, we would like people to know that Adobe Captivate 4 was released way before Windows 7 64 bit. I hope this self-explains some of the inconsistencies. However, we understand your expectations and hence made sure that recording in Captivate 5 behaves properly on Win 7 64 bit.

Hello
Welcome on the forum.
I'm waiting just like you for the release. Was lucky to have been able to play with the prelease, on Win7 64-bit, and can tell you that I didn't have trouble. Perhaps I could recommend following RJ Jacquez on Twitter (@rjacquez). One of his tweets last week told us:
Sorry about the delay, but I'm told now that the trial should be ready by the first week of July. Thanks.

I am experience a lot of of problems with recording a simulation too. If I choose automatic it does only register first click, then after that, when I click on Windows 7 windows, nothing happens. It is as if the keypresses are not seen by Captivate 4.
Funnily, I can click on my Chrome browser window and that wakes Captivate up again. Now I can type happily away and record a simulation of Chrome- But thats not what I need! I need to capture some operations on the desktop and using Windows 7 control panels. And as soon as I switch focus back to the desktop or a Windows dialogue box, Captivate 4 goes to sleep again. I can't even end the recording because it doesn't register my hitting the End key.
For that same reason, manual mode wont work either - its not seeing my PrtScrn presses
Using the 1651-something version, even. I installed the trial version of Captivate 5 and it works FLAWLESSLY. So Adobe messed up something with Captivate 4. Perhaps a clever trick to get us to pay for Cap5!
Hi there
Personally I'd have a very hard time believing that Adobe would intentionally mess anything up on Captivate 4 in order to make you purchase 5.
More likely what happened is that Windows 7 changed the playing field. Captivate 4 was produced before Windows 7, so the development team would have to be pretty darn psychic to have anticipated whatever changes there were that made so many have issues when running Windows 7!

Windows 7 isn't supported for Windows 7. This has always been the case. As Rick says, it was released before Windows 7. Some users have found ways to run Cp4 in the Windows 7 environments but it isn't tested or officially supported and so far I'm aware of a lot of issues. I'd encourage you to explore Cp5 for your Windows 7 machine(s). It has been tested in both 32 and 64 bit Windows 7 and is supported for the OS.

Hello Everybody
This is my first post and my english might be a little rusty too...so I apologize in advance for any misspells ![]()
Running windows 7 Professional, 64 bit on an ASUS laptop, Core DUO P8700, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT 220M
Today I installed the trial version of CP4 and experienced the following problem: The program opens, I record, the program doesn't open/display the file.
I believe someone else already posted about this problem on this forum (I briefly read all posts).
After trying to update the program, running it as admin, setting the compatibility to XP SP1,2,3 and Vista etcetera, I found a solution of some sort.
When Captivate doesn't show me my file, I go to "Window" and then click on "Comment". That brings up my CP document.
This workaround is unstable, meaning if you close the document and then try to reopen it or open another document, you won't be able to use the "Window -> Comment" combo. This can also be worked around simply by closing the "Comment" tab before you close the current project.
I hope this helps somebody else too!

You will probably find you will see much better behavior by installing the free Microsoft Virtual Machine with Windows XP Mode on Windows 7. Install Captivate 4 inside the VM and run it there.

Thanks! As soon as I get back to Italy I will!
It's funny: I never used VMs on a PC, but I constantly use parallel on Mac (so many problems with so many programs XD)
By the way...What's up with Flash not exporting audio on mac? But I guess this is not the right forum topic for this question ![]()
thanks again and take care

We've been running fine for a few weeks using C4 and Windows 7, but hit a snag a few days ago. Captivate recorded several demos well, but then Captivate just stopped recording in demo mode and in full motion capture.
Is there a cache we can empty for Captivate 4 that might help? I see there is a cache tool for 5, and have hunted for a location for the cache in 4, but I have not had any luck.
Welcome to our community
Frankly, I think you were just lucky that Captivate 4 worked for you as well as it seemed to. I know for me personally, I could never make it work on Windows 7 and ended up installing the Microsfot Virtual Machine with XP Mode in order to run Captivate 4. This means I cannot record anything in the Windows 7 environment.
Sorry, but that's the only workaround I'm aware of. Maybe someone else will chime in with something different. If not, you should consider upgrading to Captivate 5 if you wish to work in Windows 7. Note that Captivate 4 was released long before windows 7 was. So only Captivate 5 was built with Windows 7 being considered.

Hello again
Forgot to mention that Captivate 5 is a totally new animal. It's the first version to offer the cache you are referring to. There is nothing similar in Captivate 4 or earlier.

I am running Captivate 4 on windows 7. I am trying to record a software simulation in custom mode using full screen mode. When I record the software simulation, of opening the start menu and moving the taskbar, I get a typing object that appears on every slide, even though no typing was taking place. When I convert the typing ojbect to a typing animation, so that I can delete it, the text is always in the same place on the screen, the top left, about 2 inches from the top and from the left. Has anyone else seen anything like this ?
Yes, I have. Also random bars appearing at the side of the output windows, which again are invisible in the edited objects and cannot therefore be removed.
I found Captivate 4 to have so many silly glitches and bugs in Windows 7 64bit that it was unusable. Captivate 5 has irritating bugs - such as captions resizing if you make any edit to them at all, and appearing to use different audio codecs to previous versions - but otherwise works well.
Alternative is to use Captivate 4 in XP, where it is most stable.
Cheers,
Will
Hi,
Sometimes I get error: “An error was encountered while loading the image” and my project cannot be opened by myself or other colleagues.
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit and using Captivate 4. Last week my colleague upgraded her OS to from XP Pro to Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit w/CP4 and now she is experiencing the same error. NOTE: she never received this error prior to the OS upgrade. As a workaround we can open a new project and import the corrupted project slide by slide, but that is not very effective when this is becoming more frequent.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this? We have to make routine backups and even some of those will not open after we get this error.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in Advance.
