i was finished editing a .flv file and then went File->Export->Media
then changed all the resolution settings etc and saved the custom export preset... but i could only do it if i didn't press the XviD codec's properties...
i could only select the xvid codec if i tired to select properties, i got an error message:
"""Sorry, a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project"""
then it all crashed and the premiere error report came up...
when i chose the xvid codec and pressed OK in the Export Settings page, then it went into the media encoder window, but when i pressed "start queue" in there, then it crashed again...
does anyone know what's wrong with it??
really hard to keep myself calm when seeing it happen :S:S:S piece of sh-t!!
i'm using K-Lite mega codec pack (which has worked fine previously, even with windows 7..)
also using JetAudio Plus VX media player, which has xvid built in imo. could that cause the problem??
when i try to export a .mpg file after the crash, then i get the same crash again, but when i reset all the codec settings (in codec pack menu), then it shows up with a blank XviD status windows and everything just freezes...
then the only option is to reinstall the codec pack i think... then i can atleast export the mpg files :s
I have never been able to get Xvid to Export in any Adobe program, and see that most others get a program hang, or crash, when trying to do so.
I have no such problems with the commercial-cousin, DivX, which works fine in PrPro. I just use that, and gave up on Xvid as an encoder. It seems that Adobe NLE's just flat cannot work with it.
Now, my system works fine at playing back Xvid, or DivX, but only DivX will encode on Export. I also have their stand-alone encoder, and it works fine too - just no Export to Xvid.
Good luck,
Hunt
You have a pretty destructive way of doing things.
Using Xvid for editing is like using chlorine in the gas tank of your car. It will not work.
Using K-Lite is the best way to a full reformat of your hard disk and installing OS and programs from scatch. Like lighting a cigarette and throwing the match into a bottle of gasoline.
Weird, silly approaches and inviting the devil in.![]()
Probably the biggest problem with K-Lite is that it wants to install FFDShow. This plays very badly with Adobe programs, and is almost impossible to get rid of 100%.
Next, K-Lite will want to overwrite existing CODEC's.
Last, most of the CODEC's in K-Lite are either hacked, or reverse-engineered versions of original CODEC's, mostly commercial.
I am a big proponent of going to the source for my CODEC's, even if they cost $, and there is some free reverse-engineered version around. I want to go to the source, free or not.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - about the only thing that I can say in defense of K-Lite is that it includes G-Spot, but last time I checked it was a much older version, that had almost zero support for MPEG, MOV or WMV. Even the latest G-Spot is light on MOV and WMV. Hope that changes soon, but as G-Spot is freeware, it might take some time.
then the only option is to reinstall the codec pack i think... then i can atleast export the mpg files :s
Why did you install them in the first instance? The Adobe Media Encoder has a complete range of encodes including mpg (all designed to work with PPRO - argueably - but generally they do.)
if its not causing any problems, then why shouldnt i use it?:o
Seems like it could be causing problems so that should answer your question.
(The K-Lite CODEC Packs have caused issues for others so it would appear to be likely that its causing your issue as well. If not, have you got any other solution to your current issue?)
Back to my question...why did you install them?
I'm have some encoding crash issues and wandered into this thread, so I thought I'd post why I would install K-Lite; and that's to play MKV files in a variety of players and streaming servers. Technically I'm currently using Sharky's codec instead of K-Lite, but I'll take the aforementioned point about ffdshow and look more closely at it as a culprit (since it's installed by Sharky as well).
But if anyone has a less intrusive way to play MKV's through Windows Media Player I'd love to hear about it.
And again some years later ;-)
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TIP ! I used the really old Adobe Premiere 6 with Windows XP and my encoding-dialog-screen freezes my entire desktop for a while and does nothing. When I disable the xvid encoding-status it works perfectly. Very crazy: On my other machine were I used Premiere 6 with Windows 7 ! it works without doing this.
