Objects not appearing on stage?

Mar 21, 2010 5:57 AM

Picture 3.png

Problem

Almost finished constructing a web site (my first) now suddenly, in all the files, none of the objects are appearing on the stage only their registration points(the white circles right?). If I isolate the object it appears.

I moved some of the .fla files, is that the problem? (moving them back didn't help) or have I just hit a hot key that has changed some display settings?

They still export fine but this makes it impossible to edit when I cant see the composition.

Immensely frustrating, someone please help!?

save your workspace setup, if you haven't already and select one of the default workspaces like designer.  then click view/preview mode/full.

Not sure what is below layers in screen shot, or how it may effect your display... but if you notice the last layer in the screenshot is a mask layer that has been hidden with the red x on the visual show/hide column. Uncheck all those red x's see if it helps?

Have you saved and reopened the file? And are all of the diplsplay elements still in the library? Any recent housekeeping of the library?

Did you try unchecking the show hide buttons on all layers?  Did you import the symbol from another library, or create the symbol? Is the supporting bitmap image for the symbol in the library?

What version of Flash are you using (full version number)?  How long have you been using it?

Are you sure that the movieclips / objects on the stage have a graphical instance on their first frame?

When you doubleclick such an instance make sure that the playhead is at frame 1 and not on frame xx..

Have you tried unistalling, then reinstalling Flash? Have you tried to view/open the .fla's on another known working machine? Have you tried using the Essentials or Classic interface, or set to Essentials/Classic workspace before opening the .fla's?

If it is not version 10.0.2, which is the version that patched numerous bugs in the initial release of CS4, you should get the new version upgrade.  THat may solve your problem (may not), but it will at least solve numerous other problems you might have yet to enjoy...

it looks like you're doing something inadvisable in that video.  are you starting with a graphic and changing it to a movieclip by changing symbol type?

hi, can i ask if you ever found out how to fix this problem? mine is doing the same thing, and i'm not too sure how to solve it.

(I even went to the extent of re-doing a whole document again, saved it, closed it, and then re-open it... no objects appear! ITS SO ANNOYING!)

i've looked on the web but there doesn't seem to be any answers. would be brilliant if anyone could help. PLEASE with a cherry on the top!!!

    Hi,

Which platform are you working on (mac or window)? Which version of Flash? Can you please email your fla to us at FlashAuthBetaBugs@adobe.com? Please note that our filter system cannot accept .zip file. If you are to zip your fla, please change the file extension from .zip to .zzz.

    Thanks,

    Hi Iain,

Lauren has sent me her files and we're looking at that issue right now.

As for your machine, since it is happening to all of your files there are a few things we can try. We're going to delete your user configuration folder and preferences files.

    1. Quit Flash if you have it running.

    2. Delete your user configuration folder:

    • Window XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local   Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash<version>
    • Window Vista & Window 7-   C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash<version>
    • Mac - Volume/Users/<username>/Library/Application   Support/Adobe/Flash<version>

    3. Follow instruction from the following link to recreate your preferences files:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/520/cpsid_52048.html

    4. Reboot your machine.

    5. Launch Flash and see if you are still seeing this issue.
