Dreamweaver CS4 Crashes Regularly

Hi all,

Dreamweaver is causing me a lot of headaches. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me.

It seems to crash often, several times a day and its extremely aggravating. I'll provide as much information about the issue as I can.

24" iMac

Intel 2.66 Ghz Core 2 Duo

4GB RAM

620GB HDD (332GB Free)

OS X 10.5.8 with all the latest updates

CS4 Web Premium

Behavior: It seems DW crashes when I:

  • try to paste something (but not always)
  • right-click to access a contextual menu, either inside a document, or in the Files window (but not always)
  • try to access the menus at the top of the screen, particularly 'Edit' and 'Modify' (but not always)

I have attached the crash log.

It may be related that I'm also having an issue with Photoshop. I frequently receive the error "Could not import the clipboard because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered". This happens frequently when switching between programs, regardless of what I have recently copied to the clipboard. It will also sometimes happen when I open a Photoshop file from the Finder, in which case the open action will likely fail.

Additionally, these lines from the crash log seem related, and applicable:

Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)

Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000

Crashed Thread:  0

Thread 0 Crashed:

0   Fireworks                     0x04cde9b1 FWImaging::SetSourceImageFromClipboard(unsigned short**, unsigned long&) + 735 (FWImaging.cpp:1016)

Is it possible that there is an issue with my clipboard that is causing these crashes? If so, is there a way to recreate the clipboard to avoid corruption?

I have the same problem. I use to work with both Dreamweaver and Fireworks opened in the same time, but lately every time I start working in Fireworks, Dreamweaver crashes. I receive the same error like you.

It would be great if someone would suggest a solution for this problem as I use CS4 every day.

    Thanks!

    Re: Dreamweaver CS4 Crashes Regularly

FWIW, I was having similar sounding problems with DW CS4 causing a fair bit of hair loss (as I am having with the whole CS4 suite!) There was a suggestion on Adobe's site that Font management software might be at fault. I was using Extensis Suitcase X1 but had not updated to the latest version (as I am annoyed they are charging over 30% more for the exact same software, just because I live in the UK)

For the past two weeks I have been running without Suitcase (using Apple's FontBook instead) and the frequent crashes have stopped!

I am currently having one problem, however. EVERY time the app is stopped for any reason (including a normal closing of the application) my site FTP information is lost and has to be re-inserted manually. (This is similar to the problem with DW8 which was solved with the DW8.1 update).

I can't find any reference to this anywhere else - I am awaiting a response from Adobe Tech Support at the moment

    Hi, jevchance!

Thanks for your suggestion, but it didn't work for me. I've just downloaded and run the Adobe Licensing Manager repair tool, then I restarted my computer (same configuration as yours), but it seems the issue persists. When I use Copy and Paste in Fireworks, Dreamweaver crashes. I receive the same Dreamweaver Quit Unexpectedly error as you.

A few days ago I had similar problems with Flash. Every time I tried to open a .fla file (any .fla file) or to create a new file, Flash crashed - the same Quit Unexpectedly error. I finally solved it this way:

    (1) I've opened Users/[User name]/Library/Fonts. (2) I've deleted all the fonts I found in the Fonts folder. (There were three fonts there: Aardvark Normal.Ttf, Old Script.ttf, TrajanPro-Regular.otf. All these three fonts had been used in a .fla file some time ago and I still had that .fla file on my computer. After deleting those fonts, I replaced them with other fonts in that .fla file.). Since then I was able to use Flash normally.

It seems Dreamweaver is craving to be in the spotlight now and it needs a different solution for the QU error, which I really hope I'll find on this forum.

new user here. 2nd thread I've read on this.

Running XP SP3 2GB Ram Intel dual core processor.

I can at most open a single html file. After that everything becomes unresponsive. Cannot open another file.

Tried deleting the configration folder. That only allows me to relaunch the program and open a file.

I'm pissed just purchsed the training package for $200, which is nonrefundable. I'm talking to my manager this afternoon to have him dump this product and get something else!

    Jevchance,

Sorry for my late reply. I'm very busy these days.

I haven't tried trashing my Fireworks preferences, but suddenly my CS4 problems seem to have disappeared. I just don't know how. Since my last post here, all I have done that might be related to this is that I allowed my OS to download and install the latest updates, and I have installed Final Cut Pro.

I don't know if the problem is really solved, but I've had no crash in Fireworks or Dreamweaver since then. I haven't tried the other CS4 programs.

TechTool Pro is great for checking RAM.

I got a copy of it when I was working at a major software company. We found bad RAM in about a dozen machines. Two in particular would boot and then go to Kernel Panic (The Grey Screen of Death for a Mac).

Once we replaced the RAM everything worked better.

I've personally had two iMacs (the old CRT models) that had RAM issues. But they were both used when I bought them.

It sucks when it's one right out of the box.
