OSX - null pict handle for id 2004 with error of 0 - on simple export

Nov 20, 2008 2:28 AM

I got this on my Macbook Pro running 10.5.5 when I try to export a sequence with a song I sped up 200%. Media Encoder opens acts normal but a window pops up in the background and says null error.

I searched the forum and someone had the same error in Encore. They suggested uninstall and running cs3 cleaner.

I had cs3 on my mac then cs4. Since the drive is small I uninstalled cs3.

After reading the other post I ran the CS3 Cleaner then uninstalled CS4 Master Collection and tried the CS4 cleaner. It said there was nothing to clean.

I'm not sure what to try. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem. Adobe support told me to deactivate, uninstall and run the CS3 cleaner (even though we're talking CS4 here). You run the cleaner on level 4 which removes all things Adobe. This hasn't helped and the problem persists. I'd love to hear anyone else's results here...

    Try the CS4 Clean Script.

I am getting this error in media encoder cs4. I have the master collections of CS3 and CS4 on my computer plus I have installed several plugins for AE and premiere pro.

Adobe, do you have any idea just how long it will take me to uninstall and re-install? No? Well I can tell you: About a ******* day!

What is the background on this error???

If I could just use the old cs3 Export Movie option I could get around this... What happen to that option?

I was just editing here in LA Hollywood on a Premiere machine for a whole day work. I need to finish it and it's now round midnight...

Now this message pops-up on my face totally unexpected after all this work: "null pict handle for id 2004 with error of 0" now I want to export Media to Encoder.

So I can NOT finish my work now and I'm very tired. I want to sleep.

Please help me god, what hatred I have at this moment for the dumb-f*** somewhere out there that made the software we bought NOT WORKING PROPERLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same problems until I removed all of my Red Giant Software. I believe it is either Looks or Colorista that kept giving me the Null Pict error. I didnt have time to narrow the problem because I was on a deadline so I just rolled back in Time Machine before I installed the plugs.  I was extremely appy with Premiere up until this point.

    >What happen to that option?

It was consolidated into the Adobe Media Encoder.

I too am having this problem. MacPro quad, running Leopard. All worked great until i had to reinstall leopard.

I ran both CS3 and CS4 cleaners. Reinstalled CS4. Still got the error. Did a rinse and repeat. Same error.

Can someone from Adobe jump in here for a resolution?

I strongly suspect this is a third-party plug-in problem. Have you installed any?

    Its Magic Bullet.

    Do this.

    http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/support/installation/uninstalling/

    Then restart.

Took me 5 hours of snooping through my computer to find out what the issue was.

    Hey all...

Talked right to the source of the problem which is in fact Red Giant...it is colorista that is causing this problem...this is what they told me....:

This is because with CS3+, our products are required to install to the MediaCore folder, which is shared by all Adobe products

Colorista on Mac systems is Not compatible with Premiere Pro or other Adobe products excluding After Effects, this is the reason for the error message.

The only way to Not get this error message is to move Colorista from the MediaCore folder to the AE plug-ins folder.

    MacHD>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Common>Plug-ins>CS4>MediaCore>

    MacHD>Applications>After Effects>Plug-ins>

    And now everything works great!

    Give that a try!!

Thanks a lot Geoff! I did what you wrote, and now the error messages are gone... but still got a problem.

I installed the trial versions of some RedGiant plugins and also de trial versions for the GenArts Sapphire ones. But after that (and the above Colorista fix) MediaEncoder doesn't load the Premiere Projects anymore... the progress bar just says 'Loading', but it never does. It must be another one of the plugins, so I was wondering if anyone knows which is it.

I was wondering if I should just move all the plugins from the MacHD>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Common>Plug-ins>CS4>MediaCore> to the MacHD>Applications>After Effects>Plug-ins> since the trials I downloaded are for AfterEffects.

Also I noticed there is a CS3 folder right next to the CS4 one, with some of the plugins I installed there. Is that folder really necesary? Could I just delete it?

As I said, all the plugins are trials. I wanted to compare the difference in results I could get from the RedGiant ones versus de GenArts ones, for a project in which I'm kind of in a deadline... so I appreciate any quick help or ideas anyone can give me.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, being a PC-guy, I cannot help you with Mac plug-ins.

However, when testing any trial SW, I always do so on my laptop, keeping my workstation totally free, especially with Projects in progress. I might test on a copy of a Project, but not install new plug-ins, etc., until I know that they work with my version of PrPro and will benefit me. Then, I only install the full-paid version.

That is also why I keep an older version of PS and PrPro installed, though I have upgraded - just for those panic calls, when something has to be done in a big hurry. I want an "old friend" in front of me under a deadline.

Good luck, and hope that someone with Mac-savvy can offer direct help.

    Hunt
