Enormously. And RAM previews can be much, much longer now.
> The rest of the new features look interesting. More details on the "Dozens of Enhancements"?
There's a link on the page that I linked to to the complete list, but here it is again.
> Scripting additions? Expressions?
What new toys do we get?
There are no significant changes in expressions.
I'll post back with a list of changes in scripting very soon. I'm actually working on the scripting guide now. (Well, not right now, since I'm at NAB and dealing with a huge launch.)
Here are thoughts so far about CS5:
Exciting things:
-Freeform is a really great addition. To my surprise it seems to even support AE-lights which was a very positive surprise!
-Rotobrush naturally is really great news, no more struggling with masks when rotoscoping (I hope)
-64-bit performance is really really nice to have finally
Slight disappointments:
-Still no real 3D or ability to import 3D-files without Photoshop. The experiences with Photoshop import were not very good with CS4 and I didn't read about any work done on that in the change list. I hope I'm wrong on this one!
-I was really really hoping that this would be implemented in AE CS5 http://grail.cs.washington.edu/projects/videoenhancement/videoEnhancem ent.htm After all, there is an adobe employee involved with project. So this was a bit disappointing for me, but I guess I just have to wait a bit longer.

There has been quite a lot of work to improve stability, but the overall feature is the same in After Effects. Because Photoshop has some additions, you can make more useful things in Photoshop, so overall it's an improvement. See this post.

I was really annoyed at all of the YouTube videos that said that was going to be in CS5. It just goes to show that you can't believe what you see on the Internet. ;-)
Seriously, though, those folks are just down the hall from me, and they are always doing great stuff---much of which eventually makes it into products. Several of the cool features from this and previous release have come in part from them. So, don't lose hope.
