Hello,
I was looking for more lens profiles within Photoshop CS5 and I noticed that within the "Lens Correction" window under "Lens Profiles" the "Search Online" button is greyed out. I am looking for more Canon lenses.
1. Why would this option be greyed out?
2. Where can I go to get more Canon Lens Profiles?
Thanks,
Dave.
@simonsaith
That helps to understand what is going on, I checked my images in Bridge and under "Lens" in the EXIF information there is no data, so this makes sense.
I just took some experimental shots and Bridge verifies that is has the Lens data. I pulled them into Photoshop Lens Correction and the "Search Online" button is now available.
I am not sure why it did not see the lens data before and does now. Perhaps it is because I recently ran the Canon EOS Utility and registered the Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction data with the camera? I am not sure.
Thanks for your help on this!
Dave.
I was not able to find much yet for Canon lenses.
I imagine that it will grow as people contribute data. I had considered contributing for the 3 lenses I own, but once I started to dig into the "how to" documentation that come with the free lens profile making software, I thought that perhaps it was not worth the time considering how involved the process is. Not to be selfish, as I understand it would help give to the community, but I couldn't help but think that perhaps an employee at Adobe should be paid to do this. I realise that there are a lot of lenses out there, but franky the profiles that were shipped with Photoshop seem a bit lean to me.
In the mean time I will use the Canon lens data (available in the EOS Utility) that takes care of peripheral illumination and correct the peripheral distortion by hand if I need to.

I had a similar problem. I wanted to correct an HDR image from Photomatix. The original images are taken with a Canon EF 8-15 mm f/4L, and this lens is not yet among the installed lens profiles.
This is how I downloaded the lens profile, so that it can be applied to any picture:
I opened a copy of one of the original images taken with that lens. It's a raw image. The lens correction in Camera Raw doesn't have the "Search Online" I think, so I just "Open Image". Then Filter/Lens Correction. The Camera Make=Canon, Camera Model=Canon EOS 7D. At this point I "Search Online". The profile for EF8-15mm f/4L FISHEYE USM (raw) appeared. From the drop-down menu in the group box Lens Profiles I selected Save Online Profile Locally.
Now that the lens profile is stored locally, it can be applied to any picture, it seems.
If you don't have an image with the correct kind of EXIF, perhaps you can search for a sample photo in lens reviews on the net, and then follow this procedure after you find one.
Or maybe somebody has better suggestions.
Outside the Photoshop, you can also try to use the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/lensprofile_creator.html to download the profiles that match your lens/camera manually.
