It says LR 3, but shows LR 2 icon. Is the download actually LR 3?

I can confirm that I have downloaded and installed it from the New Zealand Adobe website. I have also paid for the upgrade license and received a serial number.

Photoshop Lightroom 3 can be purchased direct from Adobe. Choose the store for your country here then navigate to the Photoshop Lightroom 3 purchase page.

Cannot download LR 3.

Stupid akamai downloader doesn't work. I just get error message which says: "Failed to install client: Disk I/O Failure. Aborting installation.".

Does anyone have direct download link to English mac version?

Try clearing your browser cache and cookies .... or a different browser.

It wasn't browser related issue. It was just Akamai related problem. I found direct download link from pop up window, and it worked great.

If I remember correctly, Akamai downloader needs Admin account to work (using Os X). I first time encountered this problem about month ago when I tried to download Photoshop trial.
