Blackmagic claims there are not alot of problems with the Intensity Pro and Premiere ProCS5. Well I am having my fair share.
Msvcr90.dll App Error (fixed this on my own doing Microsoft updates)
Decklinkapi64.dll App errors (crash) while editing from timeline
BMDPlayer.prm App errors (crash) while editing from timeline
Unable to "hold frame on in point" using a BM preset. Adobe presets work Beautifully!
and to top it off Poor performance when compared to using Adobe presets with my mediocre Nvidia 9600 GT.
My Intensity worked great with CS3. Is this card just getting outdated. Seems it was originally released with CS2 ?
With an open mind...I am trying to think of any reason why I would install my BM Intensity Pro card into my new CS5 suite. (Instead of having it sit on a shelf)
I dont like the fact that 3rd party cards (no matter for what use or purpose) all need to use the 3rd party CODECs & Presets
Why / how are you guys using BM Intensity Pros in your workflows?
Shooternz, Before I upgraded from CS3 to CS5, the BM intensity pro seemed to be an economical and popular solution for editing HD with a tapeless workflow and being able to output an accurate preview for color correction, etc... After upgrading to CS5 (I decided to skip 4 because all was well) it seems like i have jumped 10 years into the future.
I am very interested in alternate workflows now. Shooternz, I think I read on another post that you have a Quadro FX 3800. How does this work for you ?
Do you just output to a second monitor ? I to am keeping an open mind. I have been looking at possibly geting an Nvidia GTX 470, although not officially supported by adobe. I cant find a GTX 285 anywhere. All out of stock! discontinued card.
Thanks, Erwin B
In our facility we are running 4 PPro suites and 2 After Effects workstations with a different selection of BM cards (Studio, Intensity and HD Extreme) and use it for every project.
We mainly shoot and edit TVC's and shorter corporate communication videos.
TVC's gets shot moslty on 16mm FILM or HDCAM and we then obviously need to capture the footage from either HDCAM tapes or DIGIBeta tapes. For film shoots we end up getting Targa Sequences every once in a while. And also need to output to HDCAM, DigiBeta and even BetaSP, as this is the only formats accepted by the broadcasters in my country.
We also use the SDI or Component outputs for connecting the system to broadcast monitors for accurate color representation and client preview monitors.
So if you can tell me how I can drop the BM cards and just use Premiere's built in preset and editing modes to achieve the same (SDI output to monitors, SDI and analogue component output to VTR's, Analogue/Digital Audio output to mixing desks) ... please do so!
Cheers.
Hi,
Question? Is anyone using the BM intensity Pro card as a source switcher in Pr CS5? The only input that is working for me is the HDMI. I have a bunch of DV tapes which I would like to import into Pr Pro using the S-Video cables or even composite video but I canot find where to switch inputs
. Can somwone help me?
Thank you in advance
Look for the Video input Green cable and match with the red and white inputs. These can be used for S video, Combined as component using the RGB
As well as the normal RCA. You have to play it manual to capture using Premiere or Media Express which capture uncompressed 8-10bit video quality.
Set the input signal in the Blackmagic control panel in Control panel to NTSC/PAL Yin and analog Audio or add the HDMI
I have a bunch of DV tapes which I would like to import into Pr Pro using the S-Video cables or even composite video...
Why? If you have DV tapes and presumably a DV camera or deck (you'd have to, otherwise you wouldn't be playing these back at all), why not just use FireWire/IEEE1394 for capture? It makes no sense to convert the digital signal to analog just to convert it back to digital.
It may be no help at all, and I've referred to it in other posts, but the Intensity Pro has some compatibility issues with X58 Mobos in PCI-e form. Performance would range from erratic to complete non-function. I don't think it has anything specific to do with CS5 as I had the latter problem with CS4. If your Mobo is not one of these, please disregard this post.
My workaround solution was to use a 9600GT as a dual work monitor output whilst outputting HDMI from a second graphics card - an ATI - for HDV monitoring - not ideal but it did at least give me full screen output all the time. Again I do appreciate that this will be way below spec for a pukka HD output.
