I am suffering the same problem....

Keyboard freezes when using the Clone tool in Adobe CS4 Photoshop.

It freezes as soon as you 'Option' click to select the 'sample from' area.

Mouse still works and track pad still fine, just all keys on the laptop no longer function. Pressing the caps lock key on and off is the give away, as the little green light on the key does not illuminate.

I'm using a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Processor Core 2 Duo, with 4 GB Ram, 667 Mhz.

System software is: Mac 10.5.7.   Photoshop is CS4 - Version 11 (Full extended version).

Very frustrating, cause the Clone tool is just so handy. Been using it for years.

If anybody else is suffering the same fate, or has a work around solution, please post it here, or email me through the 'contact member' option.

Yeh, read that, but I don't think so.

Hopefully somebody else will come forward on the forum and give a work

around, or reason why.

Is this a problem everyone is still having?

I have a MBP 17" early 2009 model, and I can't tell you what it is in PS CS4 that kills my keyboard, but it does.

Can't use the finder to rename anything or use key commands.

I put in a call to apple 4 mos. ago and they authorized a keyboard replacement, but I never did it.

That was before I found the problem was reproducible with PS (I had thought it was random and

had not noticed the correlation at that time).

My "cure" is to quit photoshop. Then move some windows around swap between windows of open apps

a time or two and the keyboard should come back and be ok. Till you launch PS again.

It's definitely a pain.

I didn't think it was a hardware issue, but... if it's only on some particular MBP 17's... maybe it is?

Any thoughts?

Am I the only one left toughing it out?

Does the 11.0.2 (or whatever) update fix it?

Does the same thing happen in CS5?

I also still have the problem with the windows being "stuck" when opening an image after PS4 is open.

You get the "resizing" arrows only, but you can't move the window (have to go to window=>document and

select the open document there to "select" the window which "releases" it so you can deal with it.)

Also, using the one layout tool to splatter windows all over the screen will release them but makes

an un-useful mess on this smallish monitor.

Anyone with similar issues willing to discuss? Rant? Share a fix?

Well, I don't have much 3rd party stuff installed at all at this point, so I suppose it shouldn't take long to

determine if any trickery is going on with that.

Guess I'll go see what I find...

I had this same problem the past days on a 2010 MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.8. While working in Photoshop using the pen tool or the clone tool, at some moment the keyboard would stop working. No clue about the cause, but the symptoms where the same as described in this topic.

Restarting the MBP fixed the issue, but it would come back. Reinstalling the 10.6.8 Combo Update and repairing disk permissions did not help.

Then I noticed something strange: whenever it happend, I would hear a sound in the background, like 4 "clicks".

So I checked the System Preferences for Universal Access. The tab "Mouse & Trackpad" has an option "Press the Option key five times to turn Mouse Keys on or off". This option was enabled and mouse keys where On.

Pressing the Option key 5 times switched Mouse Keys off and produced the clicking sound again.

Now the keyboard started working again.

In retrospect, it all makes sense. When using the pen tool or clone tool, I use the Option key a lot with short repeated intervals. Short enough to trigger the Mouse Keys.

Now the setting to press the Option key five times is disabled and all seems to be working fine again.
