I imported a background audio track to my Adobe Captivate project, and I can see it in the background audio menu, however, when I preview or publish the project, it does not play. When I am in the import menu, it plays, but only there. I have done this many times before without issue. Any ideas?
Hi there
I am not sure if I understood the problem correctly. I tried to add a background audio to a test project and it worked fine for me in preview and publish.
When you say "I can see it in the background audio menu" are you meaning the following?
Audio->Background Audio... ==> Audio Background Dialog opens up and the audio track is shown properly. In library, the use count of this audio is non-zero and when you right click on the audio and select usage, "Project" is listed as one of the users.
When you say "When I am in the import menu, it plays, but only there", which import menu are you taking about?
Can't the audio be played from the library preview or from audio properties dialog or from Audio Background dialog?
Do you have this problem with any project that you are creating or is the problem happening in one particular project only? If it is only a particular project, can you share the CP project?
Cheers
Siva
Hi Siva,
Thank you so much for your reply. I actually resolved the problem by resetting my global project preferences - as the issue seemed to be there. It looked as though I had muted the sound from the project preferences menu, but oddly, the VO tracks would play - just not the background. Thankfully, the project is fixed, launched, and successful!
Thanks again for your lifeline!
Best regards,
Connie
I did go in and restore, however, I had a different piece of music in the file before and that file published just fine. I would say it was the format of the music file but it plays within captivate it just won't publish. I would be happy to share the file. I don't have a public place to host however.
This file also starts with two animations on the first powerpoint but I can only get one of the two to work in Captivate, which is odd. So I opted to do the animation in Captivate just for that slide. I've had to do that before.
I do have one other question. I have Articulate, which is a powerpoint add-on. If I do slides using that will they import into Captivate? I haven't tried it yet as I just got it and my team was so nice to take over the laptops for this week so I can't try it so I thought I would ask.
Hi Sonia,
Have you reset the preference settings? That turned out to be my problem (embarrassingly).
I always find PowerPoint animations to be pretty buggy when imported, so I find it easier to just create the animations I need in either flash or in captivate. That way, I also have more control within the timeline.
I don't believe that Articulate and Captivate are compatible since they are competitors, but would be curious to see what you find out! I recently discovered a cool product that is compatible with captivate though, SmartBuilder, which lets you do lots of interesting animations. Hope this helps!
Best

Try checking the quality of the sound file. I've found that if I try importing an MP3 that has been saved at 320kbps that Captivate does not process the file. It plays fine within the program, but when you try to preview/publish the file gets skipped.
For the record, I have the same problem with the software for my phone - it won't convert MP3s that are that high - so it's not just an Adobe problem.
My audio is not playing in Captivate 4 in preview or publish modes. When I go to the publish menu, Project -->Publish settings, the box that says, "include audio" is checked.
This is audio that I recorded within captivate. I did import it from another project library, because I was having trouble with that file. It was working fine for a while, but then stopped.
It plays just fine when I view each slide individually.
Moreover, when in preview or publish modes, I can hear the typing and clicking audio.
I have been using Captivate 4 for a while and this has never happened to me before.
Would appreciate help!!!
Thanks so much.
