It means you have to (re)calibrate and profile the monitor.

You have once installed that profile, you can try that again.

Or use a hardware device like Spider, or X-rite to calibrate and profile the monitor.

Or, if you have Adobe Gamma in Control Panel, use that (not ideal)

I had the same problem. It was actually photoshop telling me the samsung software was defective. They have not issued a fix. When I opened pictures on the Windows viewer they came out yellowish, that is how I could tell it was a general problem with the Samsung software. The tech support at samsung is lousy. They seem clueless and not very bright. We have three samsung monitors with three different computers at work and they all do the same thing. The way I solved the problem was to change the color profile to a better one that makes the pictures look more natural. On Vista this is how I did it.

Right click on the screen. Hit Personalize>Display Settings>Advanced Settings> Color Management> Color Management (again). In the dialogue box that comes up check "Use my settings for this device" at the top. Then near the bottom click on 'ADD'. A list of various color profiles that you can use comes up. I clicked on 'Adobe RGB' to add to associate it with my Samsung monitor. Than I clicked OK. Then back in Color Management I set the Adobe RGB as the default for the monitor. Then close all the dialogue boxes. After I restarted the computer everything was fine and error messages went away and colors looked great.

Before you close the Color Management dialogue box you may want to hit the 'All Profiles' tab. There you will find a list of all the Profiles that are installed on the system and whether they are for printers or displays or other.

This is all new to me and I am no expert, it just seems to work.

    Rick

Richards Advice is not the best.

You need to recalibrate your monitor using a hardware calibrator. really cheap calibrators are just that really cheap and don't give the best results.

I just bought a Samsung 932BW monitor on 1/16/08 and am experiencing the same error message. In addition, when I install the NaturalColor Pro software provided by Samsung, I get the Samsung Error Message: SELF-REGISTER ERROR - The following files did not self-register or unregister: 1. C:\Windows\system32\Flash.ocx. Error accessing the OLE registry. Then I get the message that NCPro has encountered a problem and needs to close. I have emailed Samsung twice with no response. Will call them tomorrow and if they can't resolve the proble, back the monitor goes to Best Buy.

    I have a Radion 9200 video adapter.
I installed a Samsung Syncmaster 932BW LCD monitor.
When starting Adobe PhotoShop, I get this message:
Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" appears defective.

    I don't know if I have to:
    1. change my video adapter
    or
    2. update Photoshop

I have changed my video setting to every setting and only one that
makes the pics look proportional is the setting of 1280x760 at 60 herts.
Any help for this solution will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Joe

Joe, the Samsung profile is defective. You should get a hardware profiler such as the Huey or Spider and create your own profile.

As to the proper video setting, you should use the monitor's natural resolution, which is 1440x900, according to the manual on Samsung's site. This represents the actual pixel count on the screen. Setting to anything else results in interpolation or compression, where a pixel on-screen represents something other than one pixel sent to the driver. The refresh rate should be either 60 or 75 Hertz.

Thanks Michael. But there is not a setting on my computer for 1440x900. I'm wondering if I need to upgrade my video card.
About getting a hardware profiler, I have never heard of or done that.. Something new.. I will try it..
    Thanks Michael.

Joe, you might want to get the latest drivers for your video card. Make sure you uninstall the current driver before installing the new one. When the new driver is installed and you have rebooted, it should automatically detect the monitor's resolution and give you 1440x900 as the highest resolution to select. For some reason, however, drivers typically do not automatically set themselves to this resolution (which they should!).

Well, the un-install and install video driver worked.. Thank You!
I now have 1440 resolution.. but I still have the notice 'Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" appears defective' when I start up Photoshop. I am going to re-install the Samsung LCD monitor drivers again to see what that does.

Until you get a colorimeter (hardware monitor calibration and profiling instrument), you would be well advised to download QuickGamma and QuickMonitorProfile, which will allow you to visually calibrate and profile your monitor, creating a profile to use in lieu of the Samsung profile. They are available at http://quickgamma.de/indexen.html . Also, I highly recommend reading Norman Koren's instructions on calibrating and profiling at http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html#Monitorsetup .

Michael, it worked ! I first uninstalled my display drivers then installed the new driver and that gave me the 1440 resolution.
Next, I downloaded the two Quickgamma and Quick monitor profile, installed them both... the 1440 resolution gave me accurate views of pictures and then the Quick programs fixed the 'Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" appears defective' window when I start Adobe Photoshop... Thank YOU!

(I should have stayed with the old CRT glass Tubes.. hehe.. )
I guess its the technology of the LCD monitors that cause this action I took to resolve the two problems.. Oh, I reviewed Norman Koren's article... I still have my old tube type radios in my HAM shack.. I think that tells it all... :)

Thanks again, Michael! I do appreciate your help and assistance.

I too have that error message when I start PSE 5.0. Called Samsung tech support today about this error message on my 932BW monitor. I agree with someone else's earlier comment that their tech support is "clueless". They fumbled around, passed me off to other "experts" and they won, I gave up. Have installed and reinstalled drivers and the NaturalColor Pro several times. I even get the message on startup of PSE 5.0 with the NaturalColor Pro uninstalled.

    Michael:
I did download the latest driver for the video card when I installed the monitor. I then chose the proper resolution for the monitor, 1440X900. I will also look into the calibration software you suggested. Thank you.

The problem has nothing to do with recalibration, it's just that PhotoShop and the Samsung monitor .icm don't play well together. To fix the problem, you can either associate a different color profile (.icm) with the Samsung monitor as Richard Migliore did in message 4 above ( Richard Migliore, "Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" appears defective." #4, 30 Dec 2007 10:04 am) or
uninstall the Samsung monitor driver (which removes the Samsung .icm), and install the Windows Plug and Play monitor driver. Both work, and the Samsung monitor doesn't need the Samsung monitor driver to function correctly in Win 98, 2000, ME, XP, or Vista.

i SOLVED MY PROBLEM BY RETURNING THE SAMSUNG MONITOR. I HAD EMAILED SAMSUNG TECH SUPPORT ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO, AND STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED A RESPONSE. I ALSO CALLED THEIR TECH SUPPORT AND SPOKE TO THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE; NONE OF THESE PEOPLE ACTED IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER, AND ONE SOUNDED LIKE HE WAS IN A BAR WITH MUSIC AND LAUGHTER IN THE BACKGROUND. AS SOMEONE HAD STATED EARLIER, THEIR TECH SUPPORT WAS "CLUELESS". THE LAST PERSON I SPOKE TO SUGGESTED I DUMP ALL THE PROGRAMS SAMSUNG HAD SUPPLIED ON THE INSTALLATION DISC AS "THEY WEREN'T WORTH ANYTHING". REALLY IMPRESSIVE SUPPORT PERSONNEL' WHICH I WILL KEEP IN MIND IF I EVER START TO CONSIDER ANOTHER SAMSUNG PRODUCT.

Error: Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM

I had the same problem. Just like bassam radi and Richard Migliore when I start Photoshop CS3 just appear this error that says: Adobe Photoshop detect that maybe the Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM of Samsung is defective or something like that

In my case I have a monitor Samsung 732N

And just like Richard Migliore says the best solution to fix this issue is just change the ICC profile from Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM to Adobe RGB in the Color Management and then you only need restart the Adobe photoshop CS3 and everything is OK.

For more information about how you can change the ICC profile, check the post #4 of Richard Migliore

And maybe you are not an expert but you do it great. Thank you for your help Rick

Just a little general comment buried in the bottom here.

There seem to be some reluctance towards hardware calibration with a lot of people. I don't know, maybe they feel it's throwing money at something that isn't really that important. Actually, I thought so myself once, figuring I could just eyeball for free.

But I really can't remember that, because I've never looked back since I calibrated for the first time, and realised how off I'd been. Monitor calibration is just one of those things that you simply can't imagine how you could ever manage to do without...

And it's not that expensive. The Spyder2express should be within reach for anyone, it's about the same as a couple of gigs ram or a new hd, and it's just as useful. The basic technology of the express is the same as the more expensive editions; it just has fewer options such as no support for multiple monitors. But the second monitor will mostly be for palettes anyway.

You guys are awesome! You saved me from pulling my hair out!
They just replaced my old monitor at work with the Samsung SyncMaster 206BW
I had shapes that looked elliptical on the screen that printed round
if I tried to correct them for the screen then they printed elliptical!
I had other placed images in PageMaker that looked fine on screen but printed stretched out.
I also had the color problems you spoke about. I used all of the information you suggested and it fixed the colors and the image shape issues. I up-dated my video card driver as suggested but it still
didnt have the preferred setting of 1440x900. I found that I had to
set it for the maximum (1680 x 1050 pixels) in order for the on screen image issue to correct itself.

    Thanks again!

    Maria

For the record LCD monitors should always be run at native resolution/aspect ratio.

Most have it prominently shown on the packaging.

Other values may work but will normally result in degradation of the on-screen image.

Today's LCD Plug and Play monitors tell the video card what their native resolution is, and it is the maximum one listed. Always set an LCD to its maximum resolution in the video driver dialog.

REP: Hello, I am a Samsung Technical Support representative. How may I assist you today?

Chris Foster: can you provide an ICM file that works with Windows (Vista ideally) that does not yellow out whites.

REP: Let me know the model number of your TV

Chris Foster: lots of documents out on the web that your ICM does not work with Adobe Photoshop or other image processing programs. I have found this to be true as well.

Chris Foster: It is a monitor. 2443bwx

REP: Would you mind holding a few minutes while I gather the required information on your request?

    Chris Foster: sure

    REP: Thank you.

    REP: Thanks for holding.

REP: Do you see any error message on the screen?

Chris Foster: yes. It says the ICM profile is corrupt and will not work with Photoshop. The same error message everyone else using Photoshop CS3 or CS4 receives with a Samsung ICM profile

Chris Foster: unless of course you have an updated profile

    REP: Okay.

REP: Please refer the link below to get this issue fixed:

    REP: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view.jsp?isARS=Y&SIT E_ID=1&AT_ID=102581&ARS_ID=9904569

Chris Foster: so basically use a generic windows driver instead of samsungs.

    REP: Yes.

Chris Foster: Im doing that now... to correct it. But its not a real solution. I would prefer to use a Samsung driver as I have a samsung monitor. concerns about using an incorrect profile causing monitor troubles is pretty high

REP: Not to worry, it will not hard the monitor.

REP: Just follow the steps from the link given about to fix the issue.

    Chris Foster: okay... thanks

So there is your answer. Samsung drivers blow and they apparently have not come up with one that will work. So change your profile to generic - or buy a color calibrator and create your own icm.
