I am using Air 2.0.2. On downloading Widget Browser and installing I get the Widget Browser window on the screen but is just consists of lines and a box - see portion of window below. Have tried uninstalling and installing again, both ways. Automatic install and by hand but get the same result. Have also uninstalled Ait and installed again but to no avail.
I did upgrade to OS X 10.6.4 well before buying Dreamweaver CS5 but the new system caused quite a bit of chaos with my GoLive 9 web sites. So I went back to 10.6.3. The GoLive files were still corrupted but were ok on the 30 day test version of Dreamweaver CS5 so I went ahead and purchased it. Despite the widget problem I am pleased I did. Here is a image of part of the widget window. I have seen elsewhere in the forum a very similar image so not exactly feeling alone.
It looks like you are getting bitten by permissions problems. The Widget Browser creates a preferences file in your username/library/preferences folder named com.adobe.WidgetBrowser.################## where #### is a hex value.
Can you make sure that you have write access to the preferences folder and this subfolder. You should probably just delete this folder and launch again after making sure you have write access to the preferences folder. If that doesn't work as a test can you create a new user and login to that account then try launching the Widget Browser.
Let me know if that fixes it.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your support.
I have a new MacBook Pro.
I recently downloaded the trial version of Dreamweaver and Flash Pro.
Then, following the procedures on this site:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/widgetbrowser/
I downloaded adobe Air and installed it. Then I downloaded Widget browser but
when I want to install it, the installation doesn't complete. I get always the
following window:
Application Install
Adobe Widget Browser
Sorry an error has occurred
The application could not be installed. Try installing it again. If the problem
persists, contact the application author.
Error# 2038
By the way, I checked but the file com.adobe.widgetBrowser... doesn't exist in my username/library/preferences folder.
Your help is highly appreciated,
Thanks,
Hi,
Thanks for that good advice which has half remedied the problem. I checked the permissions for the folders you mentioned and they were set to read and write for myself as user. I tried deleting the folder but this has not worked. The Widget browser is still comes up with the same window that I illustrated before.
I created a new user as you suggested and started Dreamweaver. The Widget Browser loaded and worked perfectly.
Hope you can make a suggestion for making it work on my primary user account although I am the only person using the Mac computer.
There is another file that could have the wrong permissions can you try deleting username/library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/com.adobe.WidgetBrowser.##############. Then restart the widget browser. If it cannot recreate this folder than AIR does not have the correct permissions to write to this folder. Can you run other AIR applications on your machine? For Example Launch the Adobe Community Help System, From Dreawmeaver's Help menu, select Dreamweaver Help.
If all else fails try re-installing AIR 2.0.2 from here: http://get.adobe.com/air/

ahanj,
Make sure you save the .air file locally (not save it to a network location), and try to install it from there.
Also make sure that you have air 2.0.2 installed from here: http://get.adobe.com/air/
If that is not the problem could you try to enable logging of the AIR application installs, as explained in this document: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403123.html.
And post back with the contents of your log file, please?
Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience,
Scott Richards,
Dreamweaver Team.
Thanks Scott. I deleted username/library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/com.adobe.WidgetBrowser.############## but on restarting Widget Browser this folder was not recreated. I tried to reinstall AIR 2.0.2 and got the message that this version was already installed. Did a search for the AIR folder but only found it in some other CS5 programs such as Fireworks CS5 that I bought with the CS5 Web Premium Collection. Do I delete that one? The Adobe Help System is working fine from Dreamweaver.
Sorry that you are having this problem. We have not been able to reproduce this problem at Adobe I am trying on my MacBook Pro with 10.6.4. And on my Quad Core Tower it is running fine on 10.6.3 and I just updated to 10.6.4 still works fine. Can you see the thumbnails for the Widgets in the Adobe Exchange view okay? From the other screenshots it looked like there was a problem displaying text, perhaps it is a font selection issue we are using Arial but should default to another appropriate font for Asian OS. Can you post a screen shot of what you are seeing? What language version of the Operating System are you using? Do you have any font utilities installed?
Can you try creating a new user account on the machine and see if that enables you to see the Widget Browser. Also can you make sure that you have latest version of AIR installed 2.0.2 which you can get from here. And can you run other AIR applications, for example launch the Dreamweaver Help System the Adobe Community Help Client is an AIR app. If creating a new account fixes the problem can you delete the following files and relaunch Widget Browser username/library/application support/Adobe/AIR/ and /username/library/preferences/com.adobe.WidgetBrowser.########## where ###### is a long hex number. And username/library/application support/Adobe/WidgetBrowser.
Thanks in advance for helping us figure out what is causing this problem!

I have I think given up for the time being in trying to get the Widget Browser to work. It does work in the new user account I have set up so I have been able to explore what is available and install some widgets. I think I am just going to have to build my web site in the second user account with Dreamweaver/Photoshop/Fireworks and Filemaker. Not perfect I know but it could be worse.
The Adobe Community Help System is available in my main user account. I have tried all the file deletes suggested but still end up with a window like the one I illustrated some days ago. The illustrations for the widgets do appear for just a second when the widget browser is loading and then disappear.
I think this is a permissions issues since it works fine with a new account. I am seeing similar behavior, if I delete the com.adobe.WidgetBrowser.##### in username/library/preferences set the permissions to preferences folder and subfolders to Read Only and try to launch Widget Browser it is displaying the menu items but no blank screen with lines on it.
Can you make sure that the Preferences folder and all subfolders have write permissions by clicking on yourUsername/library/preferences folder select Get Info. For the current user make sure the Privilege is set to Read & Write.
For good measure do the same to
username/library/Caches
&
username/library/Appplication Support
Delete the com.adobe.WidgetBrowser.##### folder and all its subfolders launch and it should recreate this folder with subfolders /Local Store/Images Cache (where we download and cache the thumbnail images of the widgets). We want to resolve this problem so if this doesn't work could I set up a connect session with you to see what is going wrong on your machine? Email me privately
Thanks and apologies,

This Adobe Widget Browser is really frustrating. I tried installing it today and got the same results that other people posting have noted and an exact replica of one person's screen shot.
I had tried re installing and restarting but no luck.
I read the "fixes" and tried changing permissions and re installing Air.
Then I tried deleting and re installing the widget browser and got:
So now I'm really stuck.
I also do not know what is meant by delete the com.adobe.WidgetBrowser.##### folder
I too am using a mac pro laptop and OS 10.6.4
Is there no simple fix for this?

I suspect that this may is a problem with the Arial font either not being installed or corrupted. We are specifying "_sans" as a fallback but on these machines it does not appear to be mapping to an appropriate sans serif font like Helvetica. On my Macbook Pro running 10.6.4 I remove Arial and I can still not reproduce the problem. Can you make sure that you have Arial installed on your machine and it is enabled? To do this open FontBook from Applications and make sure Arial is available and enabled. If it is available and on can you try disabling all the Arial font families log out and try launching Widget Browser. In Leopard and Snow Leopard OSX should have Arial.ttf installed in your /Library/Fonts folder. Are you using Suitcase or other third party font managers?
If that doesn't work can you try creating a new user account on your machine and logging in as that user. Everyone else who experienced this problem was able to fix this problem when they logged in with a new account.
We are investigating what we can do on our side to work around this problem but it has proven difficult as we have not been able to reproduce it. In the interim, thanks for your help and patience.

Scott,
I am not in front of that machine until tonight but I can tell you
that I do use Linotype FontExplorerX to manage my fonts. I'll check on
Arial tonight. Also, I downloaded the DW CS5 trial (had been using
CS4) to see if that made a diff, but no.
Thanks for working on this,

Thanks for checking tonight on Arial. Could you also try disabling LinoType Explorer? This problem has nothing to do with which version of Dreamweaver you have installed since Widget Browser is a separate AIR application. Note that you will need CS5 if you want to get the Insert Widget, Menu Item to insert the Widgets in your page using Dreamweaver.

As the instigator of this post I thought I had better bring other sufferers up to date on my position. After Scott's message yesterday I checked my fonts with Font Book and found I had duplicate Arial fonts. Fixed this. I do not have any font organiser programs. Disabled all the Arial family of fonts and tried Widget Browser again. Still the same position. I will not show a photo of the window as it is exactly the same as photofred displayed yesterday. As Scott said if I switch to the second user I created on the Mac to test Widget Browser everything is just perfect.
Thank you all for your patience and help in narrowing down this Mac problem with the blank screen on launch. I have posted builds with 4 potential fixes. Since we are unable to reproduce this problem we need your help to try out these fixes. Can you try installing the builds at the following location and let me know which one(s) fix the problem. Can you please try all of the builds out? We need to figure out the best fix to go with that will fix it for everyone experiencing the problem.
I am specifying the following fonts:
WidgetBrowser1.air = Arial, Helvetica, "_sans";
http://srichards.host.adobe.com/widgetBrowser/WidgetBrowser1.air
WidgetBrowser2.air = Helvetica, "sans";
http://srichards.host.adobe.com/widgetBrowser/WidgetBrowser2.air
WidgetBrowser3.air = Arial, Helvetica;
http://srichards.host.adobe.com/widgetBrowser/WidgetBrowser3.air
WidgetBrowser4.air = Clean; (Adobe Clean Font embedded)
http://srichards.host.adobe.com/widgetBrowser/WidgetBrowser4.air
Thanks in advance,
